All races are descended from humans, but I'm guessing either demons in general, or this Grace specifically, are genetically modified to be as close to humans, as possible. They probably just have the magic, and they were still missing something... or it's one of those Rumpelstiltskin things, where they are kept from using their power against others, so they are engineering ways to grant some to puppets.
