Since the futanari doesn't have balls, she can play around with any girl without fear of taking responsibility. :meguusmug:

what the*** , author is straight brain dead or he already forgotten what he wrote in first chapter?! if he knew that hero is girl why would be jealous of her that "girls" are around him and now it's revealed that elf is futa. But for people who wants read this you can celebrate because there is rule if story is trash you can expect at least 100+ chapters maybe even 1000+
It's the trope where the boys are jealous with the prince for hogging all the girls attraction.

Intersex? Is that really the word the author used for the elf, not futanari or hermaphrodite?
To be fair, "intersex" is the actual term for it, whereas "futa" is a fictitious porn category and "hermaphrodite" is a depreciated medical term viewed as derogatory. It'd make sense that the elf would phrase it that way.

Now I just feel bad for knight woman lol, he knows she’s a woman and yet he still can’t pick up her hints at all. Not that he couldn’t assume she’s gay based on her masc presentation and the fact that she attracts women, but that’s a very superficial read and you’d think he’d pick up on her not reciprocating women’s interest. But no he’s dense.

actually this make more sense, they travel together for years, impossible that he don't know that the hero is a woman.

Yeah, it would actually make less sense for him not to know she's female by how long they've been traveling together. Some of y'all acting like this is a big issue are delusional lmao.

How the hell is this series so funny, I feel like someone went back in time and turned a honey story written by a emo teen form DeviantArt into a fully realised manga.

Thanks everyone at QUANTUM for the translation

Plot twist: MC just assumes FemC is a lesbian because of how she acts and dresses and how non-traditional the rest of the party is. That's the copium I'm going to huff anyway.

Pass me some of that copium cause I'm joining in on that.

If you go reread from ch. 1 it makes so much sense, and there are plenty of hints about the elf and the dwarf too... Not to mention, some amazing double entendre...

Didn't think I'd be out here discussing something like this but figured I'd chime in since a few people have mentioned it:

  1. In the raws, Rufue calls herself 中性, which is probably closest to sexless/genderless in English.
    1. Conceptually, it's to be neither male nor female (or somewhere in between).
  2. That said, I thought that would have caused some confusion/questioning (similar to what's going on here, which is surprising to me), so I opted for intersex, as it is closest in vibe in terms of the nature of the terminology she uses, as well as the words being used interchangeably depending on the field/context in Japanese.
    1. Conceptually, intersex is the opposite of sexless, meaning being both male and female as opposed to neither.
    2. As far as I can tell having read all the raws so far, this distinction doesn't seem to be a problem in terms of her identity and seems accurate.
  3. Note that my interpretation is that she isn't necessarily a hermaphrodite (no balls so assumedly not reproductive) and that futa can probably be either (idk if there's a specific definition that distinguishes the two) but in any case, both are bit too removed from the original imo.

I have a question about the translation: in ch. 2.5 the mage does actually say "him" in the raw, or it is the typical case of Japanese omitting crucial parts of sentences?

Like many people I was confused about him knowing, but re-reading Chapter 1 at no point is it really brought up. He's just mad that she's attractive and is popular and he wants to be popular too.
Exactly, He is a slave to his desires . He wants to be the popular person and thus get pampered. It’s his goal that he is trying so hard to achieve.

For humans that's correct. "Hermaphroditic" is still used for other species though, when an individual can be sexually viable for both male and female reproduction. In our world humans just never are, thus the alternative word "Intersex".
But we're talking about an elf in a fantasy world here. If they can both become and get someone else pregnant, and this is a common feature of elves, then hermaphrodite would be more appropriate. Who knows if that's true though. I suspect we'll learn more about elves later.

What do you think about the word "androgynous" instead? It's a slightly vaguer word, so it doesn't get bogged down in the particularities of how "intersex" is used medically.

Just subject omission, mentioned fixing to project lead but dunno if we ever got to it.

The idea makes sense but it's not correct in terms of what they're talking about. e.g., if the question was "are you male/female-presenting" then androgynous might make sense, but if the question is "what is your gender/sex" then non-binary/intersex/sexless would be the likely counterpart to it.

Welp there goes the whole secret gender trope out the window.

All along Itsuka knew that Shayuu is female but he blatantly disregards her advances because he inteprets it as her poking fun at him because she looks like a Bishounen and is a lot more popular towards the ladies?? :pepehmm:

I think he just doesn’t like that the hero(ine) is more popular and is pulling all the future harem members. He probably just didn’t know in the one shot.

if they get together here is a tbd.

Honestly although the author actually went away from their original one shot premise of itsuka not knowing the genders him being dense makes more sense than him not knowing the genders of his party members despite being with them for what seems like several years and defeating the demon king it would honestly make less sense if he didn’t know their gender
