@Allexio It's very consistent with the lack of depth in this series. Every single case/arc in this manga has been the same: The MC gets an assignment, which is supposedly so challenging nobody in the demon king's army has been able to solve it, but in reality he either needs to do nothing (the case solves itself as soon as he gets there) or just do something any elementary school brat could do. This shows the author's lack of ability quite painfully, but at least the author himself seems to be aware of it because this series carries the comedy tag to be used as an excuse for the gross shortcomings.

Not that I disagree, but to be fair it's not THAT far fetched. We need to remember the starting line is completely different common sense and experiences.

Like in NGNL, human's can't fly cause they're humans. HOW could they fly? Draconians fly, Flugel fly. Humans? PUH-LEASE! But in OUR world, one day, ONE person said: "Birds fly... why should humans not fly too?"
I mean, before that ONE guy NOBODY thought humans could fly. Why is it so hard to accept here? It just so happens that nobody had thought of it yet.

In this particular case, I'm thinking of a bow. "We need a bow to shoot arrows faster and further". But then the string breaks. So you keep adding shit until you make a crossbow. You're into the mentality of "adding", not "removing".
Granted, I think it's idiotic to start with a gem that can use ALL magic instead of one that can use ONE type of magic, but still...

@Tatherwood Is it really so? I mean, possibly, but do we have a lot of points of reference that would confirm it? People always did the most pointless things in their pursuit of things. Flight fascinated people for milenia, the cautinaty tales just pointed out you got to recognise consequences and not get full of yourself if you succeed. And are you familliar with the phrase "to invent bicicle"? A lot of people trying to make something from nothing without actual need for it. Even more is being invented as a byproduct.
