The "denser than a black hole" trope...sometimes I wish authors would think outside the bento box.

Why do you automatically assume he's dense? He could genuinely only be interested and focused on work and not have any interest in romance at the moment, so he doesn't even look at her that way. It's not like a guy is obligated to have feelings for a girl if that girl has feelings for the guy. Besides, if a girl likes a guy (or visa versa), it's her responsibility to tell him. She's the one with the romantic feelings for him. Isn't it unfair to keep it all to yourself and selfishly get upset when he doesn't dote on you, and just expect him to "notice" and respond to your feelings, when he isn't a mind reader?

I also feel he's trope-dense like cullinaire said above. Even if he was work focused, Ulmander has been so obvious. "oh, paired marriage cups. you get this one!" Nope. he's just trope-dense.

also, naming sense has taken a dive pretty hard.

Rampage Kingdom, land of wealth. oookay.

Next up, Genocide Kingdom, land of diplomacy.

@Guytsu You might have a point there, but let's face it 99.9% of the medium pretty much uses the trope so I don't feel bad at all not giving it the benefit of the doubt. Furthermore, there's not being interested and letting the other party know so they don't waste their effort/get hurt due to misunderstandings, and there's our MC who is so detached from viewing Ullmander as a woman who just might sort of be interested (why else would she have dressed up) that a brief lip service in the beginning was about all that he could muster.

Actually I forgot the #1 example in the chapter: he buys the cups that were specifically described as being for an engaged couple, and coolly proceeds to just hand her one as a "favor" and point blank says he'll flip the other one. Come on, now?

Maybe we can blame it on Japanese culture?

If it turns out to be different later on, I'll be pleasantly surprised.

I have little doubt that those two will end up in a relationship at some point, or at least show more interest in one another as time goes on. As you said, that is the way these things tend to go. I was more commenting about the "dense" remark. I see so many people call an MC "dense" when he doesn't show interest in a female lead that shows interest in him I just finally felt like sharing my thoughts. I wasn't trying to antagonize you or single you out or anything. I just think it's odd that so many people instantly label a guy as "dense" when they don't notice a female's feelings for him, despite that fact that the guy can't read minds and doesn't know the woman's inner thoughts like we as readers do, in addition to the fact that the guy genuinely just may not be interested. There are plenty of series out there where if a girl flirts with the MC, the MC reciprocates because his personality is more on "interested in woman is my main trait" side. I'd just think that if a guy doesn't reciprocate, then it stands to reason he's not the type of guy who has girls on the brain all the time. Like, attraction to the opposite sex doesn't come before the things that are important to him or the situation. Ugh.. I don't know. I'm not very good at getting my thoughts out coherently.

> This is why girls was hard to understand...
We didnt know of what we are saying was effective or not, and will forever reprimanded as dense

> I think MC was not dense. Its just, his focus was really on work.
Also, did you ever wondered if a relationship between colleagues in real life will work on you?
For me, it will not work. For others, it will work. It depends on you actually.
But, the number of in relationship between co-worker are not that many after all.
So MC focusing on work than romance, is actually spot on...

@Guytsu That is the beautiful thing about fiction, we all process it through our own lens and interpret it in different ways. So I am actually intrigued seeing your assessment of the matter. No harm done as far as I'm concerned.

It's like all that speech about understanding another country's customs went through the window. I mean, no one told him about the meaning of gifting a magic stone to a woman, but here he was explicitly told those cups are typically meant for couples. It's not quite denseness, but he comes off as almost insensitive this time, like he can only think of work; then again, he doesn't want to disappoint the Demon King, but damn.
Also, Ulmander being a tsundere does not help. She just can't make it clear she likes him, and being different species means he probably can't imagine she could. She won't go anywhere until/unless she manages to break his 'work first' mindset.

That face she makes on page 7 just had me dying. Poor Ulmander, she's needs to say something but it's a manga so it is what it is although I do wanna see her in that micro-bikini for uh plot purposes. Thanks for the chapter.
