So there's no way to suppress magic in this world? (like Dimeritium in the Witcher)
Then maybe knock out the super-skilled mage before moving her? (or something else that's proven to work)
This should be standard procedure when apprehending mages.

This feels so freaking random. The villain came out from nowhere and attacked MCs with some stupid ulterior motive which no one freaking cares. Then, the back story of said villain was shown to justify the motive, which, again, no one really cares. I feel like author just ran out of ideas and try throwing in some bullshit just to buy the time. We can just skip this entire arc and I don't think anything will be missed.
