I just binged this, and I have to say... why do people in this comment section give Mahina such a hard time?

I mean, yeah, she is dumb but boy... she has spunk and she has some backbone I doubt most of us would have in those situations.

Many here treat her "dumbness" like she is egotistical, if she was she wouldn't try to save some of the ghosts that literally haunted her, she has an impressive amount of empathy.

Anyway, this was a cool arc.

This arc Illko made her a much better character than titties fmc. Then again it was a very low bar to clear.
Nah FMC went THROUGH it a few chapters ago- honestly any other normal person who wasn't originally involved like Illko or Makube I could see going completely insane after the cult stuff. Illko is cool and all but you're totally underestimating the FMC.

Mahina is kinda dumb, but she's very straightforward and have so much empathy that she can even make friends with ghosts. You can't deny that she's the rock that stabilizes everyone and gives them a sense of relief.

Making IIIko wake up from a nightmare and see Mahina's silly sleeping face definitely made her more calm.

There were a couple people saying similar in the chapter 39 comments. And I thought nah... But Illko was amazing here! Easily the most exciting and resonant moment in the story so far. Made me love Illko, where I just thought she was cool before.
:hearts:
But I really don't get all the Mahina-bashing. She's a great character too! Not a seasoned badass like Makube and Illko - just a normal, sheltered kid who happened to fall down the wrong rabbit hole. The writing and art play her "airhead" silliness for laughs, but she's not stupid. Given that she's up against the incomprehensible, she usually manages to understand it pretty well.

"This is the first time you've left your parents' side, and the first time you're living alone. Also your first time interacting with different kinds of people. ...In return for freedom, you easily succumb to temptation. That's how college life is."
[Makube, ch 3 pg 14]

I think she's the perfect reader stand-in viewpoint MC for a series like this. She may not know anything about ghost world or have on-demand superpowers, but neither do we. She nevertheless shows incredible courage under fire and goes way beyond the call to make things right. That's what makes a hero. If I were in her shoes, I hope I'd keep my shit together half as well.

Hell yeah, Mahina has enough guts for any supernatural craziness thrown at her
Not gonna lie, she could use a lot of polish, but who doesn't among the rest of the cast?

Illko was amazing, damn. We've seen a lot of different faces and sides to her ever since her introduction, but this one? Where she's ready to fight for life where the outcomes are life and death, where she doesn't care if she's bleeding and crying?
The power of love is scary....

Bruh, she had an anti ghost orbital(not really) laser all this time? RAD
She had it way back during the inn episode.

I looked up what the Vaimanika Shastra was. It's a Sanskrit text about early aeronautics from the 20th century. It seems to be something of a thing with Ancient Astronaut myths. Does this mean that this series is really touching on some sci-fi stuff?

Illko's declaration of love was amazing! She shut up that monster. All she was doing was making sure everything she hated doesn't happen. She's not actually helping any of those poor souls.

Seems Illko was really injured by that incident though, both psychologically, and physically. She had a nightmare about becoming a monster, and now the right side of her face is really injured. Good on Chigarashi though, for staying at her side. She's a really good friend. But now Illko will face Makube. What will happen next?

probably because you binged this but people who started earlier get irritated with the wait that they would be more focused on her character. honestly the only thing i really find her annoying is the debut part and chasing handsome men

Man, am I glad they resolved this without the usual routine of having Kaoru come to the rescue. They didn't end up being damsels in distress in this arc, Illko saved them with her own power, but with the help of Mahina's words that were the key.

The manga keeps calling her ugly, but she looks pretty.
It's kinda hard to take in
