Well, that was a twist... So Nene is a replaced/imaginary person? How can she interact closely with powerful psychics like Makube without them noticing anything?
Cuz the author's pulling shit out of their ass, like how a bunch of ppl died during the festival (cannibals, beauty contest ) and the author ended the arc with "nothing really serious happened at least"

Both good that they're not dragging it out, and sad to see it go. This manga had potential.

Sad that its ending, but not surprised given the tonal shift to a big bad.

Also, her best friend is a ghost, also sad. But doesnt mean they cant stop being friends.

Did the author suspect it was being cancelled with the culture festival arc, then heard he could continue for a little bit and now got the notice it's getting axed anyways? If that is the case then it's honestly a shame because the culture festival could've been a natural moment for it to end, 3 chapters doesn't seem like a lot to wrap it up again.

This chapter was a ride. First, fun Christmas hotpot girls time! With some creepy elements, though ultimately nothing happened...and then a bomb was dropped: Nene's identity. What a twist! That is both shocking and sad. I think either she is actually a ghost or she got went to the future somehow. I bet she's a ghost, though...but somehow, Makube and other specialists didn't realize, probably because the university's power is just that strong.
Only 3 chapters left?! Noooo!! No way it's going to end properly with all the loose threads dropped at the end of the cultural festival arc (teacher being big bad), unless the mangaka rushed and compressed it somehow.
As someone else have said, the cultural festival arc seems like a fitting finale, a perfect place to end it. But it continued. And now it's suddenly going to end soon...
Still, I'll see it to the end. Thanks for the translations!

AAAAA author-san you can’t dropped a reveal like that outta nowhere and leave it just like that!

HOW AM I GONNA SLEEP NOW

This is gonna be extremely heart breaking..what if Nene’s “Face the truth” line in pg 16 meant something else.

That face Chigarashi make, that is a face of someone finally realising something.

Was this axed? It feels kinda abrupt, more so that we just discovered that the old professor is an asshole and that "the world is a playground for the laughing gods".

One way or the other... man, in some twisted way I should have suspected about Nene, she felt too normal for this shit.

However this ends, it was a fun ride, let us see where this goes.

According to the Reddit discussion for this manga, yes the series got cancelled.

Apparently the manga moved from magazine serial to digital only serial, author was constantly asking people to please buy the tankoubons, and then they tweeted an apology for not being able to draw out more of their planned stories.

No, what happens is it corrects itself by replacing the people that died or gone missing.

This isnt as strange since lets assume the supernatural is real, now people will naturally encounter and die but as we dont see anything wrong with the world it means something is "maintaining" our perception of reality, we can write 2 people going missing in the woods so if that happens there is no break of reality as we understand it but a entire classroom going missing is a different subject, the question is now who or what is maintaining and it seems there is a mechanism that does it automatic by altering reality in a way we dont see anything amiss.

What you want is vengeance as you think the people killed were wronged but then comes the question of morality in the sense you cannot attribute the moral qualities of a human to a supernatural creature, this is akin to put a tiger on trial because of their nature or eradicate their entire population to preserve human life, the problem with supernatural creatures is that humans arent capable of dealing with then, if you leak their existence all you achieve is panic causing unnecessary deaths. Also dont try to weasel out supernatural creatures are sentient since that is often debatable and depending on the creature itself, some are but still stuck on having to funtion in a certain way that they cannot escape but many arent or in the sense they can make choices.

Then comes what humanity is, if that mechanic is something humankind as a whole created subconscious its simply the case human drive to exist as a species were individual members arent important as a whole, this sounds awful but its not really diferent that allowing individual cells to die for the body to funtion since we are talking as humankind as a concept, not something moral.

Huh, it's actually a good chapter. It's creepy without relying on weird face like usual. * sees TL note * Why are you like this author? why are you only get good when the axes are swinging.

Makio was so creepy, I love her.

I'm so sad this series is ending so soon, but I guess I'm not too surprised. It's tone feels very niche so I can see it not resonating with a ton of people. I love it though, I wish I found it earlier so maybe I could have imported some of the volumes.

I look forward to whatever the author does next.

A shame it got axed.

I guess it was because of the random forced bad ends as if it was a short horror story compilation rather than a 'exorcist horror' story, where it's kinda disappointing that a lot of the supernatural problems don't actually get solved anymore or something? In the end there are more unsolved cases than cases that Makube and the MC solved.

It basically ended up trying to be a mix of Junji Ito and Dark Gathering but it just wasn't a good mix.

I mean, in that same arc it was explicitly said that for anyone that dies, another person that had died is brought back to life randomly so factually nothing serious happened since anyone who died ended up undoing someone else's death.

So Nene isn't imaginary, she's just a girl who had died decades ago who got to come back at some point because someone else got eaten by a monster.
