@Solaz oh yeah, there was that. They don't say much about it, but he apparently wants to avenge his mom for something.

@firosahoge shut up! Don't jinx it! There are too many worlds with boring ol' demon "kings"😓
@Solaz well, there's not much to avenge since the dude that raped & killed her is already dead.

Yeah, even replying to the other kids in a way they don't like would be risky. His place in society is pretty much lower than even a normal commoner, which is already at the level where the nobility could do whatever they wanted to them. There's like two people that would even care if this guy disappeared, and one of them (princess) is probably dumb enough to believe whatever lie she got fed about him choosing to leave or whatever. So only this 12 year old teacher would even consider kicking up a fuss about it, but would she actually do so? What would be the point, other than to weaken her own position.

@Zergio200ism You forget that the world he is currently in is that of a medieval monarchy with magic on the side. Status and blood lineage are everything in these settings, and if you are an orphan on the street, the nobility can do whatever they want to you and you have no right to complain. Especially since, even if he can use a little bit of magic, he is:
1.) Still a child, not even a teenager yet and unable to deal with the numerous physically stronger adults that know how to use magic.
2.) Already being suspected for the kidnapping case with the princess where, even if he's innocent, there are already people willing to get rid of him to save and raise their own political position.
3.) Unable to use his magic properly at all, which attending that school can fix. However,
4.) If he talks back to the royals, considering the above 3 points, he will be kicked out of the school that can teach him how to use his abilities and killed.
In the end, he's making the smart decision as a person with too little power, too little influence, and zero backing in an environment where your bloodline and you household are the most important things before anything else. Had he followed what you suggested, the story would end with his death.

@Kaldin Fair enough, guess i have been reading too many iseakai mangas in which the MC do whatever he wants. This manga is more realistic i guess and that is good and refreshing

He has been tortured, and treated like a breathing sack of shit, yet there's not a shred of reaction (even internally). We get the "there are two characters living in one body" trope mentioned every single chapter, yet the MC acts like an NPC. This level of plotline is subpar at its best.

@lionfromnorth I don't think you really appreciate the situation that he's in. He's seven years old, the Haruto personality is in the fore, and he's truly a stranger in a strange land. Rio's memories are of limited use to him, since Rio lived a very limited life up until now. Haruto is drawing off of his Japanese knowledge and, luckily, it seems that politeness and submissiveness work in this culture. He's in no position to have a reaction, since he's surrounded by people that don't like him, want an excuse to kill or hurt him, and think that he probably had something to do with kidnapping the princess. They're all waiting for the slightest reason to kill him, and he knows this.

That thought process that's outlined just after the king offered education tells you everything you need to know - it's his best chance. It's going to mean walking a tightrope every day for years, but it's his best chance. He doesn't have the luxury of having reactions, grief, or thoughts of revenge right now. He's in pure survival mode. Later, perhaps.

Even these kids are dangerous to him. Any one of them could speak to their parents and if a single indication of something wrong was noticed, he would be snuffed out and nobody would care.

I actually think that the plotline is a lot more realistic than most isekai. The MC is weak and threading his way through a dangerous world - not coming in and dominating it with his awesome Japanese food culture and cheat skills.

ahh yes tell the orphan you met at the slums to get themselves together. not like it's basically common knowledge that they don't have an education.
looks like school isn't really working out for her if she can't even understand that.
