I have two theories

First theory , MC is going to find his decapitated family, likely with heads on spikes like they usually do in revenge based plots like this, and will wipe out the kingdom or at the very least the king . Due to him having put out info that he was going to summon the hero, the other kingdom will think that he is the demon lord for sure and is trying to stop the hero summoning/training.

Second theory, hero turns out to be evil. Whether he starts out that way or is influenced by the king IDK. Real demon lord is nice and trying to do same thing as MC and live a nice slow life avoiding their role as demon lord.

Calling himself the demon lord is an extremely stupid choice for the exact reasons that Noah brought up. It makes him an enemy of BOTH the real/new hero (who goes to fight the demon lord) and the real/existing demon lord (who would be upset at the seeming challenge to the throne). He could've just declared himself an extremely powerful person. He could've declared himself monster tamer. It doesn't matter. Almost any other choice would've been better.

But wait, doesn't that make him look more powerful and potentially ward off attacks? You mean that his already shown power to the two S rank adventurers as well as the reports to the governments wouldn't already be enough to ward off the attacks? If that's not enough to ward it off, then calling himself the demon lord wouldn't be enough, as literally evidenced here where they are mobilizing in order to fight the demon lord. It just makes everything worse.

And I'm still really unsettled by the mind-broken, brainwashed slave who's only happy because he's mind-broken and brainwashed.

@Mizumachi that was not what happened, read the chapter again, all she reported is that an unknown adventurer saved her, and that he seemed to be able to control monsters.
The assumption that he is the Demon King came from the adventurer's information that came afterwards, to which the king remembered about her report and made the whole mess in deciding that the MC is the demon King himself when joining both sources of information together.
Once again the priest did absolutely nothing wrong, she merely made a normal report on her activities, since it's part of her job. She didn't even put any negative bias towards MC in her report.
