After she reported him as the demon lord, the empire started to reference him as such. He accepted the title and let others call him demon lord.

I remember that the distinction between demonlord and beast tamer was that the demonlord MADE monsters but the beast tamer was the one that could actually CONTROL them. Otherwise, they just run on blind malice for humans. I might not be remembering right but I think the pope's plan was to corner the mc while holding onto his family as their 'savior' so that he had an opening to put a slave collar on the mc. They would then prop him up as a messiah who civilized the monsters and brought them into the church. All the while, getting a 'weapon' on par with or greater than those god beasts or whatever he commands...well something like that.
