At the funeral seems like some relatives(?)... who then drop him off at a "facility" (orphanage). Imagine losing your parents as a kid to have some family/acquaintance likely become a guardian and then drop you off at an orphanage (and possibly jack your family's stuff). 90% of people would probably despise the world for that (99% if the darker scenario of them swiping his family's property is also true).

If anything, dude might be the most pure protag who (as noted above) is functionally normal and sociable as his backstory in a long time if any of that is remotely true, and that "facility" comment sure hints at some sort of bad treatment.

Not sure if anyone sees this and knows, but wouldn't be upset at a spoiler being hurled my way if it exists on what was going on in that part of the flashback.
