The forager in me was pissed off, and now I remember why. At best, one can only be 60% sure on a good day that what they're foraging is edible, not to mention the double and triple checking that goes into it.
There's also how he's assuming everything is analogous to the old world's instead of going the harder, but safer route of reading/relying on this world's collective knowledge.

This must be that feeling other hobbyists get when there's a poor depiction of their hobby.

He might not be right in his assumptions, here, or he might be using his knowledge of this world combined with his previous life's knowledge, too. Sometimes a manga I thought was going to be a poor depiction of something turns out to be doing a bait & switch, and especially when the WN/LN actually goes into depth but the manga cuts out all that detail for brevity. That said, there are far more that just do a poor job depicting things, sadly...

What... what happens when it's one of the 40% days? Do you get massive diarrhea like in manga where they eat the wrong mushrooms?

Really curious how real foraging works.

Apps, forums, and books helped me, and I was kinda off my rocker enough to try, if muh parents didn't get in muh way.

Grab a book with your region's plants and give it a casual once over, you might start recognizing plants from the book. My first book came from a visit at our local conservation/nature center, the Lee Peterson Edible plants field guide.

PlantNet and Google Lens will can help through their picture databases, and forums like reddit help to double down.

There are even methods to test plants you can't identify like in this video.

While it's a rabbit hole, I thinks it's enjoyable because there's a sort of self satisfaction in getting food for one's self

Additionally the idea that a random guy knows more about foraging in an unknown region is ridiculous. The people that already living there their whole life will definitely know more than any foreigner.

There aren't many series where an isekaid character is using his modern world knowledge in a believable way. The only one that comes to mind is Ascendance of a Bookworm.

It's quite often an isekai author is writing about a topic he only has a rough idea about.

the initial concept is interesting when he realizes something that was normal to him is awful. I want to see where this goes and hopefully it isn't slop (hopes are not high)
