Is living comfortably, safely, and prosperously harmful to the Hongan-ji belief? It's still preferable to witnessing death and disease on the streets. These monks are cruel
Prosperity and safety is harmful to any religion, if the people are not suffering the faith can't prey on people to extract whatever political capital and monetary capital to indulge in their degeneracies, there's a reason cults start recruiting by reaching to the disenfranchised and why more established religions visit people in hospitals as "charity" (it's recruitment drives essentially), when a person is in great pain (physical or psychological) is when they are more willing to make great changes to their life to dull it even a little.

I know the manga is "historial", but I would love a bit of slice of life here and there. At the beginning It wasnt this political all the time XD

I completely forgot Kenshin dies like that, I wonder how much further the timelines will diverge because of Shizuko's interference
Doesnt he die on the shitter
Hmmm. Shizuko may be technically correct about her death no longer being relevant in the long-term (I suspect she's grossly undervaluing herself), but it sure as shit would be relevant in the short-term. The Oda forces would suffer a massive morale loss if their miracle worker got murdered.

And by morale loss I mean lose their shit.
plus probably have the whole current alliance system collapse in on itself because people would think the Oda are vulnerable

He could do much more good if he lived longer. That man is a warrior saint (he care for justice and the people more than glory and wealth) and not a crazy war monger. In history, after his death, he didn't appoint any of his sons to be his successors. They fought civil/brother wars and his clan came in rapid decline
Well, there are two problems then. One, how to stop him from drinking himself to death. Two, how to stop his children from a self-destructive inheritance battle.

Second problem could be solved if he just declared an heir right now. And maybe if one of his kids refuses to accept his decision, get rid of them by death or reassignment.

But to stop a committed alcoholic from touching the bottle? You can try to convince them with an intervention. You can use force to keep them away from the hooch. But if he decides he's gonna drink, I'm sure he can find a way.

Shizuko just introduced the way lobster became a fancy food hundreds of years earlier than it's supposed to be

Nah, lobsters were eaten by the Japanese since forever. Apparently, because Buddhism banned land animals as food, they ate seafood including lobsters for protein.
Here's a website about a Japanese cookbook from 1642. A few decades after Nobunaga died, but you get the point.

The trend of Shizuko not realizing how much of an imporant political figure she is continues.
I do not know much about ancient japanese politics, but even I realize, if she ends up killed it would deal a huge blow to the reputation of the Oda.

It would probably also, as others have mentioned, enrage large parts of the general populace and some of the lords due to her excellent reputation and could kick off a very bloody conflict.
Like wars have been fought for less.

Wonder if Shizuko knows bartenders that drink as part of their job backwash into empty beer bottles, after making it look like they downed a shot. If she does, he's about to get wrecked. That or she'll give him grain alcohol, while enjoying some nice plum wine. Either way, he could very well be the founding member of alcoholic's anonymous.

She's not going to do anything that annoying. She has that old, fat guy from modern Japan and he's going to do the drinking for her. Obviously, he's going to win.
