@noobchicken crossbows is much cheaper to produce through. It also doesn't require gunpowder so it's more effective in rain. And the most important thing is it can be mass product everywhere with a smith.

@noobchicken Lots of drawbacks to muskets. More metal needed, each one needs to be custom made because there's no die casting, need a reliable source of black powder, if there's any moisture they're useless, hard to reload, unreliable. Crossbows just work.

The author did a great thing, he initially quoted a famous line that would put
MC in a position where if she would be put in a situation with war she think
a way without casualties.

Crossbow is not rare in sengoku japan as some of it were imported from the chinese mainland, its just the warriors prefers their lighter traditional bow
Crossbow are heavier and require more maintenance than the bow, thus the preference to the bow which can be carried easily thru the mountains and on horsebacks

We should not compare the crossbow to musket, thats a totally different degree of weapons. It should be compared to the bow in the sense of time and place
