(quote attributed to mark twain with a picture of einstein) Try learning, it sounds like it would be a first for you. (Link to oobleck video)

@Amplify You appear to have a huge misunderstanding regarding non-newtonian fluids (which btw, this clearly isn't. Mud is not a non-newtonian fluid). While its 'commonly said' that "the harder you punch, the harder the fluid becomes", this is somewhat of a misleading phrase. Laymen tend to consider hardness as inability to break (which it definitely isnt), so they equate the sentence to the fluid becoming more indestructible the harder you hit. You can absolutely hit hard enough to break it apart, and you will easily find videos of exactly this if you search for videos where people shoot a oobleck.
So I guess you have to turn your hostile comment back on yourself; When you have enough force to punch clean through a meter thick wall of stone, you have enough force to do the same for a decimeter of oobleck (despite the mud not being oobleck, your aggression seems to be based under the presumption that it is). Or to borrow your language - Next time, try not being wrong, etc.

Besides all that, I hate that quote you used, even if it had been used correctly (and its not only about his word-choice of "stupid"). It is most definitely always better to open your mouth and display your ignorance, as that is exactly how you can be given a chance to learn. People won't teach you if they don't know you need it, and there is absolutely no shame in not knowing. To continue your tradition of linking external sources:
https://xkcd.com/1053/
So don't use that quote again, even if I know it tickles all your "Aha, I got to insult him!" bones. It trains them to not ask next time.
Oh, and try to not be hostile for no reason.

ps: yes, I know that picture is mark twain and not einstein. Don't ruin my joke :D

Aside from the people who actually discussing the story, everyone else's comment is so stupid especially that one moron who share his rating for this manga where literally nobody asked for it lmfao

(incredibly pretentious reply and a link to the Internet's premier shitty webcomic.)
1: I'd like you to point out the part where it is confirmed in this chapter to actually be "mud". The scammer claims the brown stuff in the tub is mud, that doesn't mean it's mud and if anything should tell you it isn't mud given that he is running a scam here.
2: Also you keep claiming they all have enough strength to punch through a meter think wall of solid stone bare handed, I'd be very interested in you showing corroborating proof to back this claim up - especially since this is a flashback of when they were young trainees.

The burden of proof is on you here, since you have made these two claims. Otherwise, your entire post backfires.

@Amplify 1. Fairly sure they would recognize whether something is actually mud, vs brown-colored oobleck (even if they don't recognize it as oobleck, its quite obvious its not mud). But mostly I would argue it is confirmed not to be oobleck because it withstood those punches.
2. It is just an unfounded and exaggerated claim I made, based on the fact that its an isekai world with magic and mc is op. So while it is exaggerated, it should still be enough for him to win the bet if it was mere oobleck. We have seen him kick in metal(?) doors that easily withstand aerial assaults that make a humongus crater, slice metal armors when wielding the sword with his hands, etc. And the others in the flashback seems to be his ilk, as they too can use levitating swords. Either way (exaggerated or not), if this is what you suddenly contest, then you had no reason to claim I don't know about oobleck to begin with, much less try to make an insult of it (since this punch-strength assumption was made already in my original post).

And no, the burden of proof is not on me. You are the one who decided to flame with an insult calling me stupid and a link (that at least gave me context on why you called me stupid). And when I pointed out that with the assumptions wrote in my original post it wouldn't matter if it is oobleck, you nitpick on the fact that it is a clearly exaggerated claim (I would have understood if you called this into question in the first post - even if I think its obviously there for both humor, and to signify that the entire paragraph was a joke, others might not - but you only did once it obstructed your name-calling).
So if anything, the burden of proof would be on your side. And it would be to prove that oobleck can withstand the punches as described in my first post, since you want to argue it is oobleck while my counter argument was that it cant because of a prior established (and uncontested) 'fact'. (You would have had no reason to argue I didn't know anything about oobleck if you didn't think it could withstand what I had stated the 'mud' withstood. As otherwise, rather than claim I didn't understand oobleck, you instead would have claimed that I didn't understand their physical prowess. By claiming the former, you implied that assumption didn't matter/aka agreed to it for the sake of argument)

And I am glad you found my reply pretentious, as I mostly just tried to emulate the tone of your original post (which I assume you already figured out with how I even borrowed words from it). Feels like I succeeded then :)

This comment section got out of hand real quick didn't it?

In regards to mud/Non-Newtonian fluids: Yes, mud(defined as a solution of water and dirt particulate matter) is a Non-Newtonian fluid. Any solution of a liquid bearing solid/semi-solid particulate matter that creates a non-linear relationship between shear stress(the force tending to cause deformation of a material by slippage along a plane or planes parallel to the imposed stress) and shear rate( the rate at which a progressive shearing deformation is applied to some material) can be considered a Non-Newtonian fluid(for practical purposes, most commonly important to large scale drilling, earthquakes, quicksand, and mudslides).

In simpler terms, more rapidly applied force causes the liquid(water in this case) to retract from the application of force leaving the solid portion of the solution(dirt in this case) in contact with said force, slowing or preventing it from progressing further into the solution.

1: I wouldn't trust people from 2020 to recognise the difference between mud and oobleck with a bit of mud staining it at a glance, let alone people from a low tech, low scientific understanding medieval fantasy world. They would be unlikely to even know what oobleck is, assuming it to be simple mud.
2: Any chopping through metal armour or flying swords and such was done with the aid of something called "MAGIC" and as page 6 notes, they have to simply punch down at it without any weapons or magic. Even if you try to argue they're stronger than average people, they're not the incredible hulk relying on brute strength and at most are going to be hitting it like a sledgehammer.

They are young trainees in their early teens at most, and this is obviously oobleck in a metal wash basin from the contextual and visual clues, while they have no clue (other than the scammer and the captain) what oobleck is. No matter how you try to argue it, that is all self evident in the chapter itself.

I called you out because you were calling it "super mud" and expecting them to hulk smash their way through it. If you can't prove that they are capable of recognising the difference between brown oobleck (in a world that almost certainly believes in the 4 elements / 5 elements still) and simple mud, and that they can do all of the stuff you said without the aid of magic, not just during the regular parts of the novel in general but back in his early trainee days too, then face the facts that you were having a bad take and got caught. Also you're pretty terrible at making points and ramble incoherently a lot, you might want to get that checked out.

@Wataterp

Whoa, nice catch on that detail.. might it be that's the reason he despises this "goddess" they speak of? might it be that there are twins amongst their ranks that were able to damage this goddess and might it be that the goddess is once part of their regiment or an enemy of their regiment?

This opens up a lot of speculations.

The flashback to a lost mercenary group? Something about a possible lost lover?

Possible Spoiler: Aldis' Nickname in the mercenary group was "Guts"
