A lot of baseball helmets have a 2cm-1in hole in the top. It could have something to do with manufacturing them, but that is just guess.

Also, I don’t know where they got "steamy" from. It should be something like ‘spotlight strike round’ (though it’s not a thing I’ve seen before, so maybe a local or made up thing).

Black light and steam machines (not the household cleaning variety) are used at some alleys in the states (and, apparently, also in Japan) for an added level of excitement and general atmosphere.
