Is the combination of stir-fried vegetables, rice and pineapple common? Never heard anyone adding pineapple to that.

Pinapple is not in the stir fry nor in the rice, it's a side, and yeah, fruit can be a casual side dish with the average everyday meal

real question here is '' where is the soup?''' soup is needed in the rice soup two side dishes japanese combo

As peeps have said here, pineapple to stir fry is great. It's pretty common addon for asian type meals.
