It has a much more deeper meaning. You can co-exist with your friends and lover. It's not choose one of them.
I would like to see how the girl would respond/react...and how Izumi would respond to it.
A lot of people do act like that though, get a significant other and they drop off the face of the world. They just do everything with them and forget their friends.

"What is this thing that cannot be filled by anyone except your girlfriend?" :thonk:
With that phrasing it sounds like he is accusing him of having a pegging fetish, what's more, offering to 'fill in' in her stead 😳
"Homies over hoes, homies over hoes, do the homie, do the homie"

Na but for real, fuck that bitch, actually homies over hoes on this one, no diddy

hoenstly I feel this part of the drama is a bit forced... I understand both parties but idk... its not like they both needed to be this extreme...

Healthy relationships don't exist in this manga, that should be obvious by now
That’s a pretty dismal way of thinking. In the real world, there are different versions of “healthy relationships” so I definitely think it can exist in their world too. I would hate to think Kaede went through his whole storyline without having his own version of a happy ending. That’s why I enjoy this series such much.. because someone could crawl through a river of shit and come out clean on the other side.

I’ve rewatched Shawshank Redemption recently so that quote is hitting extra hard right now. 😅

This feels like Sora trying save everybody including himself from the darkness... or maybe I just wish Kingdom Hearts 3 wasn't bad, and projecting Sora onto Kaede due to similar appearance.

Kaede is hitting the nail on the head. Izumi is stuck in a spiral of self-loathing that's blinding him to everything else, and Kanon is enabling it, as she too is stuck on one. They're essentially reinforcing each others' trauma and as a result end up isolating themselves more. He needs to reach out to his friends and break free.

It doesn't have to be a choice between Kanon and his friends, they can all coexist and have a healthy relationship.
As much as I agree with you for the most part, but the bit about Izumi not needing to choose is where I pump the brakes. The chance of coexistence is like Bigfoot: a total hoax.

Like you said earlier, Izumi is trapped in his self-loathing and Kanon does nothing to help matters as she's in the same boat. A boat that is sinking faster than either one is willing to admit. Also, considering everything I've seen in earlier chapters, I can say with unwavering confidence that Kanon is not a good partner for Izumi, romantic or otherwise. Being caught up in her drama while neck-deep in his own is worth several recipes for disaster. The girl cuts herself and uses illegal drugs to cope with her pain, which raises numerous red flags in my opinion.

In closing, Izumi should and must make a choice: either fall further than he already has or get his head out of his ass and accept some decent goddamn help, along with a full-course meal of humble pie with a side of crow.

Thank you, and good night.

...You know, now that you brought it up, Kaede does look similar to Sora. Slightly, anyhow.

I disagree but only because I don't view Kanon that negatively.

I feel like a lot of people will disagree but personally I just see Kanon as another victim who needs help. She is not some villain who's trying to destroy Izumi and I think people give her way too much unwarranted flack.

Every interaction she's had with Izumi so far, at least to me, indicates she genuinely cares for him. She's simply not equipped with all the tools necessary to break him free from his pain, because she too was never given an out for her pain (hence she turned to self harm and drugs).

Like the drugs chapter. Was it wrong for her to give him drugs? Yeah. But from her perspective she is trying to do something for him that helped her cope. She did it out of kindness, not malice.

And now this chapter. Kanon never tried to pull Izumi away from Kade or the rest of his friend, and in fact seemed genuinely surprised he had friends, something she doesn't. I wouldn't be surprised if this made her feel genuinely guilty for what she did to him.

That's why I personally believe they can both be happy. They're ill equipped to deal with their trauma but that's something that can be worked on. They both love each other genuinely so they can always learn to have a more self-supporting healthy relationship rather than a self-destructive one. A break up is not the only solution here imo.

If she turns full on psycho later I'll eat my words but so far imo she is still salvageable.

Fix them both! With the power of a misplaced shounen protagonist, he can do it!
