Oh no. How dare someone's gender and sexuality matter when it comes to telling a story. Its not like actual gay men in Japan have said in interviews that boys love is done by LESBIANS and transmen.

"Fetish" "heteronormitve" go talk to people outside of Twitter and tiktok. For the love of God, the godfather of Japanese gay manga has openly said that these people are fine.
How the hell did you project this much into my comment lol.

I just don't like BL full of rapey tropes and exaggerated dynamics. I didn't say that they're wrong or shouldn't exist or that people can't like them, just that I hope this story doesn't go in that direction because I appreciate more nuanced depictions of queer romance instead of pure eye candy.

I literally finished my comment by saying I'm looking forward to this arc, like wut.

My bad for having an opinion I guess.

Its funny how weebs go "SESBIAN LEX UOGHH" over yuri but switch around and go "WTF GAY SHIT, LGBT WESTERN AGENDA BRUH" over yaoi.

Typically it’s because (most) weebs like women and therefore can fetishize a Yuri relationship, but there’s not “skin in the game” with yaoi. In fairness yaoi also has a (deserved) reputation for having some… less than chill fans.

Oddly enough I rarely have the same issue with (good) GL and I’ve read good genderswap stuff that has BL elements, so I’m assuming it’s a genre convention thing.
Oh you can tell a lot of "yuri" is made for straight men, a lot more focused on "hehe two girls kissing" than the struggles of being queer. It's gotten a lot better in recent years, but it still exists.

Good bl defo exists and that doesn't have that issue, like Banana Fish. It's not a genre conversion thing, it's more societal as gay women are more socially acceptable than gay men in homophobic countries.

Has SENSITIVE BOY gone WOKE!??

Seriously though, interesting start to the new story / focus, looking forward to seeing where it goes.

Careful with those kinds of jokes, folks on the internet are incapable of reading sarcasm lol

you can still see some of that attitude when the work is not mainly yuri as well.

Suddenly a lesbian shows up in a non-yuri manga and it's like "ugh yuri shit. Dropped" in a bunch of comments. Seen it a ton of times.

Also comments celebrating when a potentially lesbian girl turns out to be straight (or worse, is converted) . "yuri fans btfo" and the like is a comment you'll see a lot there.

Definitely way worse with BL though since lesbians are far more fetishized and accepted by society. Plus the fact that a lot of yuri is also made with a broader audience in mind, whereas BL is more segregated demographic wise.

When I first read this chapter I immediately assumed there were people going "ew gay icky" in the comments and lo and behold.

Yeah that's the thing, weebs think yuri is somehow just a game and that "they're just playing around"

But when it's two men suddenly its too real for them and they pull out the western agenda card

As for yaoi fans, I agree that they're unhinged but I would also argue that yuri purists ("she can't be tainted by a man!") are just as bad as them

And I'm sure there were black fans of minstrel shows. Basically all BL that people give a damn about are heteronormative, past and present. That's why a lot of them feature a crossdressing man in some capacity (but don't go pointing out a trans reading of their experiences because you'll get yelled at.)

Outside of some doujins and like twitter oneshots it's strong masculine top/dom and weaker more feminine bottom/sub. Even with 2 bears, there is a weaker feminine sub. This is the whole thing with yaoi hands.

Opinions are fine but do your research before speaking. I just can't stand homophobic double standards.

You say that BL has "rape tropes" while saying NOTHING about straight hentai? Sure, only BL has those problems instead of it just being normal with hentai. To ask for "uwu wholesome queer representation" is the same opinion as the racist heartstoppers author who said how Japanese queer media is wrong while openly pirating manga and showing off her racism.

Eye candy has been a thing in harems but sure ignore that too. Its not like shoujo has eye candy too.

I hope you actually do more research instead of being an echo chamber of tiktok young boomers.

I was gonna write up a rant about your last point, but I think I misunderstood it so I’m back tracking to clarify: Do you mean Yuri fans who hate if a girl has EVER liked/been with a guy, or Yuri fans who hate when a lesbian character ends up with a guy?

How to tell me you don't read that much BL without telling me you don't read much BL. You're misgendering queer men just because they crossdress. If it were like Lily from Zombieland Saga then I get it. She is trans.

You don't read much BL with the rise of muscular bottoms. How sad

I know this is probably going the gay/bi route, but I'm almost curious about if Asahi is ace and therefore feels the same way (disinterested/nothing/etc.) towards both sexes. It'd make the title make sense in a fairly (unfortunately) relatable way if him being incapable of loving someone in the standard romantic sense made him feel "hollow". It could make an interesting arc where he tries to find love with this new person, puts himself out there, and then realizes its not for him after being hurt/hurting the other guy, and that'd be in line with the overall theme of the story.

This is a callback to what I said earlier about hololive fans, since they freak out whenever one of the girls stream or even just talk to the boys.

But it HAS happened in an actual anime. For example LycoReco where they showed how Chisato recognized one of the male agents some ppl complained online. And how people hated Guel in WfM cuz he started being interested in Suletta, even though there was no sign of him even really pursuing her.

Basically girls even just interacting with men riles the purists up. Now I'm well aware they're simply a vocal minority but MAN are they vocal online. You usually find them in twitter and reddit.

Okay, I can absolutely agree with that then!
