despite being bi I’m not really a fan of the boy love genre in general, I’m hopeful the author handles it more tactfully than most. Though with their track record the last two arcs I’m actually looking forward to seeing what they do with this.

I don't think your sexuality matters when it comes to genres of what you like to read. It was a huge stereotype back in the day that only lesbians like boys love. Still true to this day

Fair, I guess it’s just kinda weird to me, like theoretically I should enjoy the concept, but I always find the execution lacking

Same, you can tell most of it is made for straight women. A big sign of that is the overwhelming appearance of heteronormativity, which like, why.

Alright author, I'll give you a chance. Show me you can portray gay/bi people in a non fetishistic, non tropey way and you'll get full marks on this manga.

Honestly I was not expecting this to be the direction of Asahi's arc so I'm really curious to see how it plays out. Has a lot of potential.

Oh no. How dare someone's gender and sexuality matter when it comes to telling a story. Its not like actual gay men in Japan have said in interviews that boys love is done by LESBIANS and transmen.

"Fetish" "heteronormitve" go talk to people outside of Twitter and tiktok. For the love of God, the godfather of Japanese gay manga has openly said that these people are fine.

I don't know how it's weird when women mainly rule the NTR and ugly bastard genre in hentai. To me, I find it depressing as a non straight transman when that people assume we have to write what we know when it limits art creation.

You don't talk to artists, do you?

Oh I’m not a stickler for “write what you know” or anything like that. I was saying the weird part is that “I” don’t like BL generally, not that most artists or enjoyers aren’t gay men.

I do feel that if you’re writing outside of your lived experience it behooves you to do your research and make sure what you’re writing isn’t actively harmful to the intended demographic though.

I’m not gonna drop a series just because a straight man or a woman writes a gay character, but I might roll my eyes or drop a series if it’s written poorly.

You are contradicting yourself in saying "despite being bi I’m not really a fan of the boy love genre in general" in making it sound like you should be enjoying the boys love genre as a bi man instead of just understanding that one's sexuality does not matter in what we enjoy in art.

I disagree on writing what you know when artists are struggling more than ever with the rise of remakes and AI. The ones fudging are not wanting to take risks because of that type of thinking. Research is common sense from the start but even then, we still lack representing minorities in the majority types of media instead of bringing awareness on the ones that do.

Eh.... My man, you said it was weird to you when I mentioned about sexuality =/= what we like in art. More so on saying straight woman and man instead of just, again, doesn't matter on sexuality and genre in what we make in telling a story

Holy, I love BL and I've always wanted to see a more grounded approach to it, especially when it's the "'straight' guy becomes gay" trope as it happens too fast in most BLs

The first arc was great but it kinda collapsed at the end. The second arc never reached the peak of the first arc but it was still interesting. The third arc seems like it would be a story about an asexual person trying to understand himself by trying different type of love(?). If the author can write it properly, it could be very interesting.
first arc was overall better, second had the better ending imo.

Iunno man, Stranger by the Shore have already explored this particular topic with much more poise in its writing. I don't really see any value on seeing it being done by an author who pretty much flopped the last 2 arcs despite both being goldmine of young adult topics.

I see there's a lot of immature commenters here, saying "ah, he's gay" like it matters. Did nobody read the tags before starting to read this? -.- I don't think it's going to be that simple to label him as "gay" considering how the last 2 arcs were written.
