This is amazing, very simple yet genius way of portraying 2 time manipulators fight. There's probably something zoe figured out while she was fast forwarding her growth, maybe one of the lives she lived is figuring out the secret of the tower with lucas or something lol

I've been blazed by Zoe's last stare towards Luca in the last panel. She did idk how many couples of years with Luca, all ending with a meteor blast. She's been depressed finding no other way out until he told her in her dream to keep growing. That's what she did and in her stare towards him, we can clearly see two things :
  • I've done it! I took out the Garland and we won't die again in a meteor blast.
  • It's up to you because I 100% believe in you.

This series is a gem of its own. It will become a genuine classic for the next gens, like Berserk and AoT.

that's not mid battle, it's checkmate
the pawns can be taken down with 7 years of stopped time, the bigger bad is elsewhere for lucas to take down, but she's about to crush exhaust-ing akira to shreds
unless something new enters the battle
It ain't over 'til its over, and if both combatants are still standing, then the fight ain't over. The introduction of 'something new' is precisely what the chapter framing seems to foreshadow.

The wait was worth it. I'd guess that the way to wake Zoe up is for Lucas to use up a tower's powers himself and shift himself to a worldline where's she's waiting for him. There's also a move Lucas can use to finish off the fight asap. Control everyone, take the clones hostage and order Kayano to cast meteor on mommy's house.
If all powers are removed, Zoe should wake up. The fact superpowers are fighting means Towers do not have the ability to move to parallel worlds. Time manipulation is their limit.

She'll fall asleep and when she wakes up she'll see Lucas and Cora together with a child.
Or Lucas finally grown up and enough to be in a healthy relationship with her. He is a child, as she pointed out in the previous chapter. But perhaps she is treating him a bit distany becaus she has realized there are two explanations for his romantic feelings: her body or her then 9-year-old mind. Both are disturbing.

Please please🙏🙏🙏 I don't care if it's a deus ex machina ending. Let Zoe and Luka be happy together
On one level, I would like that, on another, Luka has slowly transformed from a brat who will kill people in exchange for music lessons to a monster who has started to enjoy having a reputation for mind controlling parents into killing their own children.

It's insane that all this happened and it's just the first chapter of 15th (last?) volume. Mature Zoe is pretty nice.

It's clear that without Akira, there's no way for the Empire's forces to overturn this battle, still, I feel there's a card yet to be played. Or maybe not, both the pope/pontiff and the emperor appear very indifferent, or at least accepting of whatever outcome that may come. I wonder what will become of Kayano though, after getting her pov and accompanying her through her arc makes it very dreadful to expect her die...

As always, thank you very much for the scanlation! :bocchiwave:
The pope is stated to be the only futurist who NEVER became indifferent to outcomes. He/she/it wants to put an end to the age of proxy wars and reckless usage of alien powers. They have worked for that tirelessly for hundreds of years, fully aware that achieving their goal of turning off the towers will result in their own death. Are they an assh*le on a personal level? Absolutely. But they are the closest thing this series has to a hero.

Oh, that's a very good point. I agree with your opinion on the pope. And I didn't remember turning off the towers would cause his death at this point in time, but it's been a while since I've last re-read the story.

Regarding the feeling of indifference, I meant more in the exact point the story's at now. It's like they've left everything in the table and there isn't much more to what they can do, either Lucas and Zoe succeed in winning the battle (which seems to be the case :win: ), or Akira is able to take them both out and save Kayano. It's what makes me feel we're very close to a definitive conclusion of the war, but I still get a feeling of... Having a flea behind my ear, as I'd say in my language. Like something unexpected is still going to happen.

at least turn off the tower would remove his regeneration power, extracted powers, dead people face and memories

the worst i can see is Zoe use up all her life span and sleep, akira would not kill Zoe and let Lucas run wild (with barely any tower power to fight back)

The thing is, it's hard for something new to enter the battle during a time freeze. Akira had something special that allowed him to manipulate time, but who else besides Zoe can do that? And Akira's tower is on the ropes now.

As for the quick fight finishing move, Mommy mentioned before that Lucas can't take control of anyone he's spoken to directly before. He's met Kayano, so he can't make her nuke Mommy unless she's willing. She, Akira, and one of the clones made it out of the hell-town Lucas cast a berzerking spell on. Who knows though, Kayano's well on her way to being disillusioned with the world, so maybe she'd drop the meteor of her own will.
