Someone, please spoil just this for me: is this one of those manga where the MC is faced from the start with a very obvious best girl and responds to good will only with disdain for no other apparent reason than because he's written by a Japanese author following marching orders, or will this MC respond properly to this girl's day-one loyalty?
You'd think that being ostracized and disowned for a psychopathic sibling--and then finally left to become fodder for that sibling's sword--by even his own family (for as long as it's been going on, no less) would have him scrambling for any honest support.
Beautiful girl permanently gives up her nobility to follow MC into exile, after having faithfully followed him affectionately since childhood? "Why are you following me?? Go home!"

then the MC actually starts oblivious, but later it's just him playing dumb. This is basically a harem story that very much preaches against harems.
He gets stuck in a situation where basically a lot of the girls of his party love him but hate each other. So if he sleeeps with someone, it becames a literal blood bath.
He reveals that when he finally gets to go on a trip abroad with just his bros. And he can't even go to brothels since one of the girls has all the prostitues around their main base in her pockets. So in this trip it's finally his chance to let loose.
So, in other words, this is the kind of "harem" in which the MC avoids women for fear of their wrath against each other and him? Even worse, Novem was there before them all; why worry about the rest? Why even go for any of them in the first place, if that's what's going to happen? Sounds like yet another installment of I'm Afraid of Busty Women, just written by an author who thinks he's slick.
Spoil me on something else, then, since this author seems to be inclined to follow those aforementioned popular marching orders: what happens with Novem? Does the MC at least acknowledge her as the main girl? I probably shouldn't expect much if he was, as you said, hoping for a chance to cut loose--from her.
Short answer, yes.Does the MC at least acknowledge her as the main girl?
It's not that he avoids women, he avoids sex. He is pretty much against harems, but not blind too the fact that he stuck with it. So he does makes effort in the relationship., this is the kind of "harem" in which the MC avoids women for fear of their wrath against each other and him?

He doesn't.
Novem does. Novem does a lot of weird shit that he tries to ignore because he loves her, until it can't be ignored anymore.
This series hides a lot of hints behind the suspension of disbelief of the readers. So a lot of weird behaviours in the real world that are usually ignored by readers in japanese media, are still werid in the world of this story.
So, with the way things are going, will it have a harem ending? And when you say he makes effort in the relationship are you referring to with his harem or just Novem? Sorry, I just really like harems since I'm a bit of a depressed loner.Short answer, yes.
