hrhrhhghghghghghgg CREEP ASS SHIT MAN.
Louise... Lou.....
Edit: HELL OF A CHAPTER TO BE ALL CAUGHT UP ON MAN. I let these chapters stack for like a literal year to binge on and yet the Cliffhanger Tension still got my ass. I never stood a chance...
Well if its gonna be like this I might as well do some actual analysis. The beans and the 'fragments' are kept in a really interesting edifice- namely it reminds me of the way saint relics are kept.
I suspect a base aspect of the shadows is this: While they do grow their own inherent personality, the loyalty of the 'Living doll' remains a permanent part of them after their fusion. In most cases this is to Grandfather- the structure of the Childrens Manor ensures this.
(In fact, I suspect this is part of why the adults don't really give a fuck about anything else that happens there- what matters is soot power wielding adults with unending loyalty to Grandfather, and everything about how the structure of the house works bends to that end fairly inevitably. Even a 'Face' whos brainwashing had been undone as long as Lou's was submits in the end here.)
Then we have special cases like Kate- but it's possible there could be other members of the house who secretly don't have a 'core loyalty' we don't know about, caused by the chaos of the initial bout of turning.
Then we have This Fucking Dipshit- I suspect if he's successful, it would permanently overwrite the 'core loyalty'. The shadows personality becomes dominant, but the resulting fusion maintains that core function.
But it's interesting how this all ultimately has one weakness: people can use the motivation of 'loyalty to the great grandfather' to decide for themselves what that means. Douglas' breakthrough actually did a great job of demonstrating that: bullying little dipshits decide their own advancement is 'for the good of great grandfather' so you can justify it for anything. Which is a motivation we see IRL plenty.
I want to hope Lou/Louise can still be saved... this says the 'day of', so maybe they could break in just in time?
...Maybe Louise could use her strength training to punch clean through the coffin door, Kill Bill style. LET ME HOPE...
