At first I thought that it was OK that things turned out like they did for the MC because Renka seemed genuinely oblivious to his feelings for her, but now she seems to have had her own strong feelings for at least some while. So now she's just perpetuating the misunderstanding, to her own obvious dissatisfaction, for no gain. I guess maybe she thinks she can't be in a relationship because she's an idol of sorts? If that was the case, she would have said something like that when he said she'd get a partner of her social status, but instead she just went "of course haha you're my childhood friend." She looks hurt when he brings it up and MC looks visibly miserable in a way that's really hard to interpret as anything other than him being torn apart by his yearning, so if she really does feel something for him and lets things keep going this way, it's really on her, isn't it?
If she turns out to have shot him down like 6 years ago because she wanted to focus on idol training or something, I will be extremely disappointed in her but not surprised.

Would be a real shame if they don’t get to together, but I feel like that’s where the story is really heading, Since it lacks the romance tag, along with the fact that both are to scared to announce it, and even if they do go out, I got a weird feeling it’s gunna end up like Oshi no ko, with her getting killed due to a crazy fan

I'm kind of hoping he meets someone, probably like a fan of Renka too, and they'll bond over how much they support her and make him transfer his interest from Renka to her. Too bad for Renka but like the TL said, she pretty much played herself for not initiating all these years.

I'm torn regarding what I want from this manga. I want them to be together and be one of the childhood friends who end up together. On the other hand, I do like the notion that MC might find someone else since FMC is making the misunderstanding reality.

he's stuck in the present where she's a famous idol who he thinks is out of his league, without regard for their past together and the fact that if she really was out of his league then they would've drifted apart already.
she's stuck in the past where she was only thought of as practically family, and is trying to get his attention and stand out from the other girls by being an idol - but doesn't realise the present situation where she's gone too far and has overshot her goal completely, to the point that she went from "unremarkable" to "untouchable", since in her head he still doesn't see her as a girl yet. even though at this point if he has yet to see her as a girl then she clearly needs to change her whole approach to this.
neither of them are (understandably) able to consider the full picture (or even come to realise its existence), and frankly i don't see this going anywhere without somebody on the outside outright telling one of the parties (preferably the girl) that the other one likes them, and that they should confess their feelings as well (that or do the cliche of getting them to talk about it in explicit detail whilst having the other party standing around the corner and overhearing everything for themselves).

It's a positive feedback loop. One side see that the other never show romantic interest -> they thought the other aren't interested in pursuing such relationship -> they become afraid that pursuing it will result in the break up of their current relationship -> they insist on keeping the status quo -> the other side see this and started the loop again
