Why do I keep getting yuri baited by these anthologies??? I know what I'm reading, I know to expect nothing of the sort, but then I get my hopes up and inevitably get slapped in the face :qq:

I'm too biased to rate this objectively. Twist could have been foreshadowed a little better, but it makes sense given the prior set up I guess. I'm just mourning the loss of what could have never been.

eh...
that wasn't it.
though in part thats caused by the anothology format of course, but writing a story that fits the format is also a skill a writer should have.

To be entirely honest, I didn't predict the twist, but mostly cause I really wanted yuri. Should have known as soon as the cover page had the "rival" on it. Or when the yuribait started happening. I knew they wouldn't give us the satisfaction in this stage of the anthology, but I still wanted to believe...

Anyways I didn't hate this one. I think the prince being replaced with a demon isn't a bad twist. I just wish the other twist didn't happen

Bad story. I'm more pissed off the Prince was literally sandbagging his own so-called partner the entire time. "Interfering" with her powers, rather than telling her.

Terrible setup and story. Taking a strong FL (childhood scene) and crippling her "for her own good". I would have been either way on the yuri bait. But she absolutely shouldn't have stuck around him after that.

Some stories don't deserve a ham-fisted "medetashi medetashi" ('happily ever after') these JP anthologies are prone to.

No, just no. She has a point in stating he should say they can face it together. She died the first time because he refused to do that and nearly died again the second time for the same reason. If he had actually cared he would have found a way to talk to her. Protecting someone you live doesn't mean blindsiding them with danger. Protecting someone is giving them the heads-up there's danger coming.

If a guy had so little faith in me I'd walk away, pure and simple.

There are too many cop outs here. He leaves her for the commoner, but the demon had the power to brainwash. The commoner girl was actually a demon in the first place. It being all his plan. She says plainly that their relationship was combative, that she really didn't feel much for him in the first place and he showed no sign of loving her even before the commoner showed up. She was even investigating more out of curiosity than anything else. Lastly, her not having any trauma towards either of them.

I can't remember what story it was, but there was one where the girl flat out refuses to be anywhere near the guy that killed the MC, despite previously loving him and a lot of the circumstances leading to her death not being his fault. That is how you handle that level of trauma. I know it is a bit much for a oneshot for an anthology, but the goals of these things is to get people interested in the idea, and this one is just no good, imo. Even if you extended out the story to flesh things out, besides getting the people interpreting very annoying interactions as yuri to have even more fuel, it would just not work because there are too many cop outs.

why do the volumes always start and end strong and followed by a weak story in the middle, I'll give it a read 1 last try for next chapter if it is still garbage then I'm just gonna read the last chapter of the volume
