Here I was expecting Irene to randomly show up to plead for peace with Begonia or something, but instead it's this guy coming to (probably) ruin things.

The dialogue here is so weird sometimes.

MC: *points out obvious thing about a bigshot being in a rural town*
Jeremias: "OH HO HO WHAT A CLEVER PROTAGONIST WE HAVE HERE"

and also Jeremias: "why would you care about whether or not the country you live in potentially goes to war with a nation that has already attacked your village once?" 🤔

edit: got names backwards

@StaticTransit You do know that Erik is the MC not the knight captain?
The knight captain name is Jeremias or James.

Edit: StaticTransit fixed the comment I was replying to so disregard me pointing this out.

Wanna join the weak ass knights that stood by and did nothing when your village was attacked? It'll make us look so much better and you will gain the ability to be the kingdom's dog to do w/e the king tells you to do.

I miss Felix, he was too cool for this manga, let's hope he has a peaceful reincarnation into another world where he will conquer all.

"You're just a commoner, why do you care if we start a war?" Uh, because the commoners are going to be the ones most affected by and actually fighting that war?

If this is going full medieval, usually it WASN'T the peasants doing the fighting, it was small armies of soldiers and knights who have been raised since birth to fight, essentially.
Commoners fighting was rare, because they had to be busy taking care of the farms and fields, to provide food for the actually warriors.
Only when we developed methods to farm more efficiently and make more food, the ability to field larger armies with commoners as cannon fodder was possible.

His movements would be far more restricted if he joins but joining would put him closer to Christ and the princess.

@Tokanova only in fairy tales. Historically, peasants always joined in the fight, only that they dont serve as the core of the army, and are expected to route past the early skirmishing. They are what we call as levies. Some even made a crucial impact on the outcome of battle, like the yeoman archers of Agincourt.

Instead, only when we entered he agricultural revolution did the professional soldier of the Napoleonic era truly appeared.

Commoners made up a bunch of the fighting forces, knights would be akin to what modern day officers are and the commoners would end up being the equivalent of the enlisted men.
