★ But she wasn't just an outside creator, she'd also been the woman by his side while his memories kept getting erased, reintroducing herself every time he forgot, helping him face his fear of death, while he kept thinking of the other four. She got furious when he chose to sacrifice himself for them, and came back afterward to find him living happily, remembering none of her sacrifice, which is why she first approached him wanting revenge, wanting him dead.
★ But meeting him again, she fell for him all over again, both hatred and love still intact, hating him enough to want him gone, loving him too much to let go. Unable to win against the four normally, she decided to use her position as writer instead, showing him a manuscript titled "LoD 5th ROUTE," burning each page while naming Satsuki, Reine, Shuna, and Shino, declaring all four will die.
★ Satoshi himself won't be killed, which is exactly what makes this her revenge, forcing him to watch all four women he loves die, then having the world erase every memory of the pain and love he felt for them once the route ends. This ending's locked in with no loophole this time since the victims are named directly, and their entire conversation's already part of the scenario.
★ Once the manuscript's burned, Hibise leaves. The 5th route starts with Shino's death, hit by a truck running a red light at an intersection, her body bloodied, eyes still open, Hibise watching from a distance confirming it's begun. After she dies, the world doesn't just erase memories of her death, people slowly accept she never existed at all.
★ Shuna goes missing next. Searching, Satoshi meets a remorseful guy who admits doing something to a girl he didn't even want to do, like he'd been forced into a role. He finds Shuna under a bridge, decomposing, covered in dried blood and flies, a crushed strawberry cake beside her reading "Thanks for everything," a gift she'd prepared for him. Devastated, he eats it anyway, thanking her out loud, before finally breaking down screaming.
★ Shuna's existence gets erased too, Satsuki and Reine no longer remember having friends named Shuna or Shino, their families act like they never existed, the world reshaping reality around just Satoshi, Satsuki, and Reine.
★ Confronting Hibise with the remaining two, a bigger secret surfaces, Sano's actually already dead, killed because the four believed he'd keep threatening Satoshi. Satoshi's furious they never consulted him, feeling disconnected from the people he's always considered family despite still loving them.
★ Satsuki and Reine explain Sano's the actual writer of LoD, Hibise more of a player character within the game. Satoshi initially rejects that since Hibise already confessed to writing it, but thinking through everyone's motives, realizes LoD couldn't have been made by her alone.
★ The game's designed so all four end up belonging to Sano, whoever he picks survives, whoever's rejected or doesn't love him dies horribly, Satoshi's positioned as the "thief" stealing heroines from the protagonist who needs eliminating. Hibise finally explains she and Sano co wrote it together, she wanted Satoshi, he wanted the four heroines, their goals lining up perfectly at the time.
★ LoD follows standard gal game structure, individual routes first where only Sano's pick survives and the others die, then a harem route if all affection requirements are met, otherwise a bad end. The world they're living in now was never truly the ending, just one of the still running routes, resetting endlessly until all four belong to Sano in the harem route.
★ Hibise explains Shino and Shuna didn't just vanish, they've moved to the next world reborn as their high school selves, but with every memory of Satoshi, their friendship, and this world completely reset, back to being heroines who don't yet know Sano's true nature. That brings hope but also new fear, they could easily be steered right back to him, and dying in one route is literally how you move into the next.
★ Hibise confirms once the day changes, Satoshi forgets everything, Satsuki and Reine die and follow the others into the next world, while he stays behind, losing all memory of them, and ends up living with Hibise instead, exactly the victory she's been planning.
★ After she leaves, Reine breaks down first, repeating she doesn't want to die. Satsuki hugs her despite her own shaking hands. Satoshi tries promising he'll save them with no actual plan. Satsuki briefly considers killing Hibise, but Satoshi points out that wouldn't stop the scenario, since Sano's death didn't kill the world's power either.
★ Scared of losing each other with barely any time left, the three of them end up holding each other, kissing desperately, which turns into sex. Afterward, checking the time, Satoshi realizes there's about three hours left and opens LoD on his laptop, checking every route.
★ Inside the game, each character has a different name, but in every individual route, one heroine ends up with Sano while the other three suffer horrific fates, losing their sanity, getting sold and destroyed, handed to debt collectors, or killed by their own mother. Satoshi realizes just how deep Sano's obsession and possessiveness runs, he never actually loved them as people, their lives and pain were only tools to secure them as his, and refusal meant destruction.
★ Satsuki tries writing a final letter, hoping it survives like his old diary once did, but her shaking hands and tears ruin the writing, unsure if it's better for him to remember their love or forget everything and live free of grief.
★ Satoshi concludes the only way to ruin Hibise's plan is to die himself, since keeping him alive is her whole goal, his death would destroy it completely. Satsuki rejects the idea, warning Hibise could just write an even worse scenario in retaliation, and reminds him the heroines aren't truly gone, just resetting back to high school. She says they can accept being reset, but he can't accept them going back to belonging to Sano, refusing to hand over the women he loves to a man who sees them as objects.
★ In the end, their death scenario moves forward anyway. Satsuki grabs a kitchen knife and tries killing Satoshi, Reine lunges to stop her, so Satsuki starts choking Reine instead, saying if she's going to die anyway, she'd rather do it herself. Satoshi grabs the knife and stabs Satsuki from behind to save Reine. The moment she's hit, she stops resisting, doesn't blame him, says it was the right call, and dies in his arms.
★ Reine refuses his apology, since Satsuki will always be a friend she loved. Knowing her own time's up, she grabs the bloodied knife, tells him to live happily, and stabs herself, collapsing with a smile.
★ After laying her beside Satsuki, Satoshi confronts Hibise with the knife, having lost everyone, ready to do anything. She keeps playing the victorious villain, but he starts noticing something off, realizing that in almost every original LoD route, he himself also dies, which contradicts her supposed goal of wanting him. If she truly wanted to keep him, every route should've kept him alive, yet so many endings kill him too.
★ The bad end text only says "a high school student got hit by a truck," never confirming it's actually him, a vague loophole she'd deliberately left open. Hibise finally admits the whole truth, she'd worked with Sano and hated Satoshi deeply, but was also secretly trying to save him, pushing Sano to include a bad end where everyone could survive under the right conditions.
★ Once the four heroines moved on, Hibise planned to let Satoshi live happily with no memory of them, never truly seeing their deaths as a victory since they'd once been close to her too. Satoshi refuses to be left alone in an empty world, and won't let her carry all the guilt herself, asking her to die alongside him so he can follow the four into the next world.
★ Hibise asks for one promise first, that if they succeed, he has to acknowledge the possibility of loving her someday. He doesn't commit to being her boyfriend, but accepts the possibility. They head to a railway crossing at midnight, hand in hand, cross onto the tracks, and get hit by the last train, ending the 5th route's world and carrying them into a new beginning.
★ Satoshi wakes up in his apartment, back in his third year high school body. All the traces of the four heroines living there are gone, his school uniform's hanging neatly, math textbook's on the desk, none of the wear from college life has happened yet.
★ The doorbell rings, hoping it's one of the girls, but it's a plain looking girl with braids and glasses. He doesn't recognize her until she takes off her headphones, strikes a pose, and introduces herself as Hibise, revealing she too carries memories from the previous world.
★ The bell rings again, and standing there this time is Sano, who immediately calls him by name despite Satoshi's attempt to play dumb, grabbing his collar and declaring he'll take Satsuki, Reine, Shuna, and Shino back, insisting they all belong to him. Turns out Sano also carries memories from before, and as both writer and protagonist of LoD, fully understands what happened, determined to reach the harem route this time and refusing to let Satoshi steal his heroines again.
★ Once Sano leaves, Satoshi actually feels relieved, no longer needing to hesitate facing him, since this version isn't the kind protagonist he once admired, but a possessive man who sees the heroines as property. He decides he's done just avoiding bad ends, this time he wants to destroy Love or Dead itself.
★ But they notice something new, looking in the mirror, his bangs have grown long enough to cover his eyes, matching the typical gal game protagonist look, and Sano's own style. Hibise stares in horror asking what it means. That physical change suggests the "protagonist" role isn't the same as before, Sano's still the protagonist and writer, but the world's power is now attaching protagonist traits onto Satoshi too, the two roles now overlapping in the same world.
★ The story then flashes back to a conversation Hibise had with the four heroines before the 5th route fully played out. She'd gone to Satsuki's room crying, apologizing for failing to save them despite knowing the world better than anyone. They don't fully blame her, admitting killing Sano was their own decision. Hibise says if she'd never shown them Satoshi's diary, they might never have learned the truth or killed him, but Shino counters that without the diary, they'd also never have truly met Satoshi, every option available from the start was already a bad one.
★ Hibise explains that once the four return to the LoD world, the Satoshi waiting there won't be the one carrying past life memories, the world will provide the "original" Iriya Satoshi as designed by the writers, while the Satoshi they love stays behind here and loses all memory of them.
★ The four had discussed this repeatedly, briefly considering killing him so he'd follow them too, but ultimately chose to let him live, not wanting to force him into sacrificing himself again. They ask Hibise to take care of him after they're gone, knowing their memories of this conversation and even their own deaths will likely get erased to keep the scenario intact, choosing a painful future where he stays alive with Hibise instead.
★ Shino's the only one who tries a different way to preserve her memory, planning to follow her death scenario without resistance, theorizing that if her body, words, and actions all stay exactly on script, the world has no reason to alter her memory, wanting to experience her final moment fully conscious. That's why she never dodges the truck, already knowing it was coming, choosing to follow the script to stay aware until the end, not because she wants to die, but as a genius's way of resisting memory erasure without fighting the fate already set.
★ Satsuki asks Hibise to look after Satoshi. She's not thrilled her longtime rival will end up living with him, but chooses to trust him to her anyway. Hibise promises she'll make him happy, a promise that explains why she fought so hard playing the villain and pushing him to forget the four heroines in the first place.
