Oh. A surprise, but definitely a welcome one. Playing dead really has benefits at times huh.
I wanted to remember one cult movie where this was one of the main twists, but even decades later I'm not sure it has become common knowledge.

Let me guess, the manga will continue to focus heavily on various hot archetypes and tropes? I doesn't mind, really.

Retiring due to aging and can't compete with younger talents that will be flooding the sports year by year and are only going to get better is one valid justification.

But is that really the case here though? It'd be if '98 MJ decided to retire because he lost to LeBron (and LeBron got permanently banned from NBA after the game) because there might be future LeBrons? No it was just one freak talent who will also no longer competing and you're 3 games away.

Well, no. I think you forget that Kyara herself LOST, and that to someone who's only been through 9 games. That means the next generation of players is already here, and the competition level will start increasing. There were two strong newbies in this game, one lost to the other, then the winner took down Kyara. That's what told Hakushi that her time was over. From this point on the competition will be Kyara's level. It's more like '98 Jordan seeing Shaq get bodied by a no-name newcomer.

She is smart. She knew when it was time to hang it up. To get that far AND walk away with your life?...well whatever is left of it. I still do not understand how she did it.

It's a little surprising to see it in the manga, cause in the LN they tell us 3 people survived but they never mention or show Hakushi as the 3rd survivor, we're left to wonder who it was if I'm remembering it correctly

I guess that's the power of someone who has a life outside his ambitions

1% survival rate. 3 survivors from 330 people and most were experienced. I understand why they had to bring in a bunch of new talent after this
