Bro I wouldn't be suprised if you had a toenail growing out of your cerebral cortex.
@ichi24
The vast majority of scanlation groups don't include the 'addressing people by name' bit because it sounds weird in English. I also like it when translators can effectively keep context intact.
The keikaku meme is literally making fun of people that don't want a proper translation.
No information is lost by leaving out the constant 'Shikimori-san'.

... I honestly cannot fathom what you're trying to say here, other than it's an attempt to retaliate against me calling you what you are.

Citation needed. You seem to have a bad sample.

No information is lost by leaving out the constant 'Shikimori-san'.
I literally explained how this statement is utter bullshit earlier. I won't waste my time repeating myself.

@petra I mostly agree with you, but in this manga there actually is a point to keeping the unidiomatic mode of address: it was explained in an earlier chapter that Shikimori wants them to keep calling each other in such a fashion since her grandparents do it too.

@@MarqFJA87 Since they aren't diegetically speaking English but rather Japanese, doesn't it make sense for them to be able to follow the common norms of the language the "English" we read portrays? Translation is the act of separating the contextually meaningful elements from the meaningless in the source language message, interpreting it and restructuring it in the target language. A skilled translator can find a way to keep the tone of the original while creating the target text in idiomatic target language, you can for example portray different levels of politeness by using different registers of speech. What you seem to believe you want out of your manga translations would be nigh-unreadable since Japanese is completely different from English in practically all ways; from context-sensitivity to reading direction. There is a lot of room for creative translation between turning onigiri into jelly-filled donuts and writing broken English that masturbates all over anything related to the Japanese culture, and both of the extremes are practically worthless as ordinary translations.

Love, an actual translator who can speak Japanese.

@Bente_Koini: You would've had an actual point if I actually complained about the translation of this manga and any that resemble it. I did not. What I want is actually closely demonstrated by what we are getting here. It's not my fault if you grossly misunderstood what I said to mean something very different.

@MarqFJA87 Did my comment somehow make it seem like I consider this translation anything beyond "legible, below-average amateur work by children with surface-level understanding of translation?"

@Bente_Koini: OK, now you need to elaborate on why you consider it so mediocre. It's "average" at worst IMO.

And for the record, nothing in your previous comment implied that you had any particular criticisms of the translation.

2 teens are still heavy. Papa Izumi is too cool.

Also, it must be fun to have your future in laws so genre savvy.

Aw!! Man, that's such a heartwarming chapter... them going out on their individual dates but caring for each other at the end and sharing the moment... SO SWEET 😩!!!!
