@flannan TBH, the concept of genre alludes me at this point.
But I am sure that if isekai is a genre, it is a subgenre of fantasy (unless we are looking at some space travel thing, which I still believe can fall into the category of isekai.
Though my cruddy Christmas story was voted to be isekai by only ~60% of readers)
And I agree in general with what you said. The 'isekai' tidbit is usualy added in just to make it more relatable. Making world building easier
could be a small bonus... but honestly, most works I read don't utilize that, both the high end works and lower rated crap.
In the end, they just describe everything in an infodump fashion, with the only difference being 'in this world/in this game/in this novel' being prepended to the description.
Then they never mention it again~~~
IDR what this thread was about.... Wasn't this guy a time leap? How did we get on the topic of isekai anyways?
If anyone wants some recs for shojou romance/otome game/villainess isekai (and other works I liked), click my profile. Some works only have official translations, but they are noted in my profile desc.
