@BalrogDeMorgoth
I take it you've never seen Goblin Slayer? Monsters are malicious pests. It's not like hunting deer at all, it's like eliminating a termite queen.
You know, I think albert is right. And if you wanna @ me just to yell, please read until the end? They have to be exterminated before they cause problems to the humans. Give it a flip, if they do get out of control people are gonna be dying and losing their loved ones so you either stop it early or wait too late.
It's a fucked up situation but ALL of the divine protections people have give them strong urges to kill/hurt/maim, even if it isn't a fighting protection (IE Baker, weaver, maid). The god in their world made it so you can't level up your own protections unless you fight others with protections, whether monster or humans (though if you're fighting another person you have to kill them to gain any exp, training though is a different story). THIS GOES FOR THE MONSTERS AS WELL! THEY HAVE THE SAME DIVINE PROTECTION URGES
Plus don't forget they're on the frontier of the country, there isn't gonna be much help from neighboring cities cause they're just so far apart. It's literally why the ADVENTURER'S GUILD HAS TO PUT OUT A QUEST TO GET RID OF THE MONSTERS! This girl thinks it's a bad thing but that's just the way of their world. LN Spoilers
Though you do see the guys who come from the other side of the edge of the world but I don't really consider them "help" cause they took a long voyage and no way they can help if Zoltan is in trouble.
IF US THE READERS HAVE PROBLEMS WITH THAT, THEN IT'S GOOD! The author has put their time into this story and to make it than this less than perfect world and I'm glad that we can discuss about it! This is a great story and I'd be sad if people stopped reading here because of Albert doing the deed.
@BalrogDeMorgoth
You said it yourself, different worlds have different rules. This was a quest issued by the Adventurer's guild. A C ranked party is needed to kill them, though since there aren't many adventures in Zoltan since it's the frontier, Albert as the only B ranked adventurer takes up the duty of doing it with his party.
It's kinda amazing what being at the top of the food chain entitles us humans to. Anything lower than us causing any sort of trouble (or perceived future trouble) while merely trying to allow its family to survive is a pestilence that must be quashed immediately.
I get the logic behind it. It doesn't make it feel any less wrong.
@Radlife Yes and control population hunt exist IRL, you still don't go killing the pregnant females, that's not how population control works.
'They are at the frontier !!!!' and 'Muh possible rampage later !!!' are reasons for population control, not for retarded ass unethical slaughter, you know what happened when humans in isolated place hunted all of one kind of animals ? They fucked the eco system and end up starving or inviting invasive species that killed them all.
@DrangC0Bex The monster in question was said to be docile multiple times and from what we can see, not hostile to humans... While I believe gs would have made the same choice if they were goblins, I don't believe he would slaughter just because(only if goblins were to be involved ofc).
@Kittypony - morality is important for people in real world. People in their world seem to be less moral than real people, which makes them seem like monsters worth exterminating at times.
@Assaultsquirt - yeah, Goblin Slayer is a vile piece of racist propaganda. It is immoral to be writing something like that in the 21st century.
First of all, that sword is cursed. Mark my words.
Second of all, population control does not include killing off pregnant females. That's called extermination and will drive a species into extinction quick smart.
