why would you assume that?
The countries here are vaguely based on IRL countries. Albion is an old name for England, and given the description of the "Freed lands" (with 'freedom' being a catchphrase of the US, and it being a federation/multiple lands implying the "united states"), it's pretty blunt in that frame of reference.

1) It was the first colony of Albion/England in the New World (the name for N+S America)
2) The lands joined together in a sudden war of independence against Albion/England
3) Became to be a world power on the same level as Albion on the back of its territory size + resources

Not to mention, having their ambassador be a playboy is a typical anime/manga move for the token American character.

I wonder what the American, Clark, from Chapter 45, thinks about Freedland.
Good question.

We will need to wait and see.

At least as far as we know... Clark isn't hung up on race, his girlfriend is a beast human, he is a guy who sees people for who they are not what, but let's see how he is with national ideology.

So Dhala isn't the US equivalent? Is it meant to be the Roman Empire if they lasted? Koenig's clearly meant to be Germany.
I think yes, on the Roman Empire i mean.

Reagan was using a kinda of... what was called in English? That traditional Roman vest, and what little we saw from the architecture from Dhalla did look Roman.

I gotta be honest that this whole Huang Lia arc has been fairly boring. We are not seeing our characters do much and instead they keep being dragged around by others and allowing themselves to be subservient to other nations to ask 1 question that they still haven't bothered to ask. I get this is probably all build up for the next clash and failure of Albion but I wish we would get more progress with Kai

Once again the princes shows just how smart she is while also being a complete fucking moron with no comprehensive reasoning skills. If she’d taken five seconds and actually thought about her idea it probably would have worked better than it is with neither of the other three factions learning about her.

I found it surprising that four countries are made up of elves. Does that mean elf = European? Can't say I remember the details of the other nations though.

Great idea to just announce you can't read that lost dialect. Surely no one will look her up in a deep dark dungeon because of that...
It was the first thought that came to mind. Guys, shouldn't we, like, be a bit more subtle with handling the whole "we have the only person in the world capable of reading all these super duper important documents"? Wont the other factions try to murder the fuck out of her if they find out?
I guess not uh, sorry 'bout that, im really bad at playing palace politics i suppose.

Albion is obviously England, the Freedlands are the US and Koening obviously Germany, but for Dhala, it's a lot more complicated.
We don't know much about it, but if it's meant to be an equal of Albion, then probably France. Maybe a more latin/roman version of France, or a France/Italy inspired nation.

We have to wait to learn a bit more about them I guess.

If they're starting to assemble the Eight Nation Alliance, who are the Boxers suppose to be?

Dhala = Netherlands?

Ne-Dhala-nds

Odds are that Dhala is France, mostly from the the Third Republic era. It matches with Dhala's imperial rivalry with Albion (England), and the specific locations they've been trying to colonize or control. I don't know much about Vietnamese kingdoms, but if they used an older Chinese script for writing, it would confirm what @Mordenheim said last chapter about Sakura. https://forums.mangadex.org/threads...he-history-of-huang-lia.1877190/post-22745922

Hmmm... you bring a point to mind.

First... I admit that I am no expert in this, my knowledge is very superficial if even that.

Anyway, high are the chances that Dhala is a mixture of all those central European nations with a perceptible Roman touch.

Rome did spread a lot, there is that whole "Hole Roman Empire" clusterfuck of a bunch of different parties claiming to be the true inheritors of the Roman empire and should be the true leaders of the world, the even fuckier clusterfuck of Vatican's popes being elected, killed, and having more than one at the same time, and some of them trying to change the seat of power.

Anyway... one thing i think i can say... both Yoshino-sensei and Satou-sensei have a thing for the Roman empire, they take any opportunity to use it as a inspiration, be it for a nation, architecture or other things.

In their last work, Seikon no Qwaser, there is a dipshit that claims to be an heir to the Holy Roman Empire, and even the Vatican enters the shitshow at some point.

I must admit that, until now, I assumed Dhala to be a combination of Germany + France + other continental European inspirations, basically a hodgepodge of references to England's traditional rivals. But the reveal of Koenig (obviously the Not!Germany of the setting) has thrown a wrench in that interpretation. Who knows if we might get more counterparts to other European powers that may alter the landscape.

Nevertheless, while I know this arc has been frustrating due to its pacing and lack of spotlight for our usual cast, my inner history buff is giddy about all the historical references. The writer clearly knows a lot about the history of the 19th century and I appreciate a fantasy setting that looks beyond the usual Medieval references.

It doesn't really work from the stuff we know so far. Dhala is a republic, though with remnants of noblility that still hold some higher ranks in the military. It's also got territory in their world's version of Asia, which seems to correspond to Vietnam, and interests in what looks their version of the Middle East. It's competing with perfide Albion in these regions. The era in their world is loosely an analog to our world's 19th and early 20th century, and the only republics from that time that fits the description would be the French Second or Third Republics. I picked Third mostly because the tech and events seems closer to that era than the Second. If we get an arc in Dhala we might get a better picture. There is a chance the Vatican comes in here too, if the authors plan on having arc with their world's version of Risorgimento. Thanks for reminding to read Seikon no Qwaser though.

The "Holy Roman Empire" during that era would have been the Austro-Hungarian Empire, preceded by Austrian Empire, which was the pieced together remains of the Holy Roman Empire, and associated Hapsburg holdings, after Napoleon smashed it on his tear through Europe. If we do get a WW1 analog arc, we might end up seeing it and the end of all the "inheritors of Rome" up to that point.
