Damn it, I caught up on this rollercoaster this chapter. Now there's nowhere else to go!

Really funny seeing Rio maybe taking the bait on such a half-assed photo where Rei isn't even smiling.

With his age it seems like he might be a snarky teen as opposed to someone being cunning/opportunistic. Tho i have heard of ppl moving on quicker in their next relationship like "we were together for 5 years but her next relationship s/he got engaged within one month" bc they know what they do/don't want in a relationship (still seems like a rush without a year of living together or already being friends during the prev relationship without necessarily cheating)

To be honest, Haruto shows up as a rebound and I'm completely on board with him.
ITs the fact he's circling (and has been circling) + Mahoro being indenial about her feelings that makes me dislike him so. and again, he is the author's ideal husbando so feels no need to explain why he should be a good partner other than "he exists".
I'm well familiar with genre rules, but it makes Haruto no less smugly irritating.

Unless the husband also has a stone face in front of Rio too you'd think she wouldn't fall for it since he obviously looks like he doesn't wanna be there/would prolly be contacted and like "i was dragged here by my wife at least i got free food"
My assumption is Rio going after Rei has less to do with her feeling attraction to Rei and more about wanting to get one over on Mahoro.

I don't like the "Mahoro is an unreliable narrator" theories,
This only works if we ignore the genre. this is 100% Stella getting her groove back rules. Anything unrelated to Stella reclaiming her groove can be safely ignored because it is housewife wishfulment not any sort of logical exercise. If a housewife can't track the plot after a bottle of wine, its too complex.

And before anyone starts, see also: the class idol being hopelessly smitten with the gloomy sourpuss male lead post-isekaing

I don't think Mahoro is an unreliable narrator, but I do wonder if the author is an unreliable narrator, since this is apparently based on her experiences. Or the experiences of "her friend", wink wink.

And she still took it like that.
I do wonder if "May our marriage live a long, healthy life" sounded less like obvious forced bait in the original Japanese.

Also lol at her praising the twists in her own story in the commentary.

Man this was a sad read. Watching two people who both want nothing to do with each other and would rather be anywhere else than in each other's company try to interact is...kinda painful to watch.

Thank you for the translation.
I think that is called "collaboration" in corporate lingo, and it's not limited to one-on-one meetings. It's very common, a daily occurrence in many businesses. Equally dreadful.

I don't like the "Mahoro is an unreliable narrator" theories, but in this case we do really only see the friend group's dynamics solely from how she remembers them. In chapter 9 it's implied that Momo already knows a bit more about what Rio is truly like. It is possible that Rio never even had much of a facade and was awful the whole time, we just don't see it that way because Mahoro's memories are tinted by her own feelings of friendship.
My girlfriend's friend group of 8 years broke down because everyone tried to keep up appearances for her sake since she alone was clueless about their animosities with each other. That kind of rose-tinting definitely does happen in real life.

I bet if it was a live action and they cast like Yudai Chiba or a teenage looking ver of Sohta Fukushi ppl would be all for i t lol

Tho hard to tell looks with a 'simplistic' art style tho personality wise i see the appeal of maybe dating but idk about husband material esp like ten years in but i've never been married

yeah awkward to walk around eggshells around ppl, or having some ppl in a group but some of them never hang out one on one otherwise (tho other than personal relationship drama, there'd be that one person who overhears everyone's shit talk about each other)
