Fact that Itsuki knew all about this even before Mahoro told him but keep it quiet still mindblown me.

Like he just want to keep his trash wife to suffer after that final reveal and also didnt even divorce her at all but use that cheating to guilt trip Rio to finally obey him lmao.

Total psycho.

I wouldn't say that. Remember Rei is a mama's boy and Itsuki is a controlling tyrant. Rio couldn't even divorce Itsuki when they were on (relatively) equal terms. At the end of the original, Rio was outted as a cheater in front of her entire friend group and was almost made to strip. She has even less leverage. Additionally, even if she was able to escape Itsuki, Rei's mum is another controlling tyrant who would NEVER allow Rio near her son.
Rio didn't want to divorce Itsuki at all because he has money. She's not even thinking of leaving him for Rei in her delusional thoughts here. It seems pretty clear to me she doesn't actually love him.

Well, since it's been a hot debate and I don't think we'll have more worthwhile insights on the subject: Rio is the vilest of the bunch.

Itsuki is the one who started this but after this chapter, I'm convinced there is no circle-of-abuse BS to hide behind here.
Being a victim of a controlling psychotic and shitty husband shouldn't make you want to inflict misery on a close friend. She's not a kid reproducing the errors of her parents. She's a grown adult with one hell of a superiority complex who enjoyed being with that walking trash bag not because she loved him but because it made her feel better about her own worth. A worth so brittle any attention from him and away from her was felt as a personal slight.

But what really sealed the deal, and we saw that happening in the main story, is that she's feeling pleasure from others' misery. And when their misery seems to fade, she ensures it comes back. She's a true sadist.

Itsuki should be number 2 by the way, but between the constant belittling/abuse and the fucking rape attempt from R-boy, yeah...

Mahoro was really well surrounded between a sadist, a psychopath and a narcissist. Momoka also kinda sucked. No wonder why her perfect pretty brother felt out of place.

theres such a gap between the first six chapters, which make rio look like a reasonable woman thrust into an unreasonable situation by factors that she couldnt predict, desperately wrangling for some degree of control over her life, and these past two, which make her look like a complete psycho. i feel like the author just couldnt bridge the gap between rio's backstory and her actions within the plot

I dunno, the "explanations" feel very thin to me. Like they're the first reason the author could come up with for why this would happen.

I reflected on this for a while. Rio seems to be acting mostly on impulse, rather than carefully machinating her schemes. I agree with you that it is a simplistic and boring reason/explanation, but at the same time it doesn't bother me too much. I mean... How can a reasonable person think "yeah, let me gift her my used condoms" and "oh, I am going to record my cheating sex videos and post online". Imagine the mental gymnastics required to justify those... I think the author was just like "bah, forget it, let's just go with the psycho route" LOL.

I don't think we are reading the same manga though. While it is true Itsuki is a shitty husband, there are more ways than one to solve her problem, and Rio has been wearing a very thick mask, even to herself.

Remember, in the first chapter, when thinking about why she married Itsuki, her first and foremost reason was his money and status. While she did mention that he "loved" her, I'm pretty sure spouses who truly love each other don't mention money and status first.

When Itsuki treated her badly, more than once has she been shown to not wanting a divorce due to her refusing to let go of a comfortable, materialistic life.

And beside, if she's truly is a reasonable woman "forced" to make unreasonable choice, why, for god's sake, has the majority of her inner monologues about how better she is than Mahoro, how she has "won", or defeated Mahoro and how she constantly needs validation from other people. Shouldn't it be along the line of "Rei is my ticket out of this situation" or something. Oh, and let my reminds you again that Rio, not even once wanted an out for her marriage with Itsuki.

Look, I'm not defending Itsuki, he's a bad person. But saying that Rio has no control of any of this and she's merely a victim undermine a lot, and I mean a lot, of her bad behaviours and narcissistic tendencies. One can be a victim and a perpetrator, and in Rio's case, she was like that at first, but she has long moved past the victim line a while ago.

My view is different. For me, this was the chapter that really sealed it for me that Rio was terrible before Itsuki even entered the picture. Sure, maybe he made her worse, but I can't blame all this on him.
Ya 100% agree on this too. Her hypocrisy and lack of sympathy that makes her assume that mahoro is immediately the one in the wrong in their marriage is used as justification to ruin her marriage. It’s ironic how they both have bad husband and lie about their marriage situation but rio can’t recognize mahoro’s

Jesus Christ. From all the reasons I could think of that she would go as far as to secretly film her and Rei without his knowledge and sell it, further attention from (I assume) other men, is the whole reason.
Its a little more complicated than that. She is stressed and unhappy, and seeing someting to cope with that stress chooses to get validation from men using her body because its easy for her to do.

Sheesh, everyone surrounding mahoro is trash, Including the weird deus ex machina brother.
Especially the weird brother.
Haruto is the one who masterminded all this, don't be fooled by his innocent act. All revenge to get back at Rei for dumping him for Mahoro.
