I wouldn't say that. Remember Rei is a mama's boy and Itsuki is a controlling tyrant. Rio couldn't even divorce Itsuki when they were on (relatively) equal terms. At the end of the original, Rio was outted as a cheater in front of her entire friend group and was almost made to strip. She has even less leverage. Additionally, even if she was able to escape Itsuki, Rei's mum is another controlling tyrant who would NEVER allow Rio near her son.

Rio in this chapter made me think of reading Cersei's POV chapters. Absolutely delulu, so smug when she's being petty and pathetic, and so convinced she's being a mastermind when she's making massive blunders.

Like Rio seriously thought Reí, REI, loved her? That this was some kinda forbidden love story?? The dude couldn't be more any obvious he's just spineless and using an occasion to fuck a hot woman, that's it. He can't even be arsed to leave Mahoro when he doesn't even like her because in his trash mind, he sees no reason to give up on his free maid.

Frankly, that's the only thing I can be glad in Rei, he's so trash that he ended up making Rio even more sad and pathetic, which is a win
