We're still kinda feeling out the best approach for the sfx. Part of me wants to fully replace everything because I like a challenge, but I also have a responsibility to preserve as much of the original art as possible. With music sounds specifically, the options are leave them entirely untranslated like we've done in the past, subtitle them in the gutter like we did this chapter, or fill the page with "bwing bwong bwang"-tier jibberish. Kinda no good options. This approach is at least sustainable, even if it doesn't create the same immediate impact as a full conversion. Good to hear feedback as we refine our approach, so thanks!
I totally get what you're saying and appreciate the thought and effort that went into the decision you made! While I respect wanting to let the original SFX stand on their own, I admit that I like the gutter TL because in the past, I didn't really know what kinds of sounds I was looking at. I could kind of tell if they were sharp or jagged or percussive just from appearance and context clues, but having a translation, even if it's not onomatopoeic, gives me a lot more information, and I can better appreciate the original SFX. I think that with this series especially, the SFX are such an important part of the art that they're almost another character in the manga, and they make a big impact. With others where they're more for emphasis or splash, it makes more sense to replace them completely with an English counterpart. Though as a PR in a group myself, I have to admit that there are times where it's really hard to find a TL for an SFX that doesn't sound completely dumb in English haha. Anyway, I really love this series, so thanks for all your hard work on it!

Finally caught up. Gives me chills seeing all these western music legends in one place, especially in a japanese manga.

Now, I know a lot of the series is focusing on the 60's, but I know there has to be Robert Johnson at some point. He's where the crossroads came from, likely the first man who summoned the demon. And also arguably one of the first true founders of rock n' roll. I feel like the end of this series is gonna be about how musicians aren't all meant to necessarily just replicate who they used to be, but that they grow and change. The 27 Club is inherently flawed as a band concept - they're all lead guitarists and singers. Really only Brian Jones is able to play anything more. Robert would be the one who could say how important individual creativity is, compared to just putting them all together.
Woodstock may have been a meeting of the minds, but remember that everybody remembered it for how creative all of them were individually, not just for how they would be all together in one place.

I read it up to here and I'm just gonna drop it, its too self masturbatory and the author is now pulling shit out of their ass about music theory that will marvel the average Joe with. It also does the shitty tournament arc trope multiple times cause 1 year time limit, while understandable it feels like the author got tunel visioned into 1 aspect of music creation whereas it started more free spirited and introspective. Also as others pointed out, almost all the musicians were their respective leads which already shows the most likely outcome of the Woodstock concert in which either they lose cause there's no cohesion on their sound other than raw talent or they win cause muh evil music labels. It also personally ticks me off how little respect is shown to band members of the deceased other than jimi band mates, like so many chapters with Kurt and no mention or something like "I wonder how Dave is doing" or if Kurt has even heard Dave's work. And Jim Morrison was never that buff he was lean/lanky.

That line about the 1/1 rhythm is definitely up there as one of the biggest loads of nonsense I've ever read.
think it's a literal translation, and the proper english term would be 4/4 (4 beats per bar aka the disco beat), which check out when he mentions it's EDM.

Yeah Kurt was straight up character assassinated.
But well, in all fairness, the real Kurt Cobain wasn't the most likeable of guys. The depiction of his disenchantment with his career is true, but he also had way more ugly opinions than he knew what do to with and talked mad shit on interviews.

With that said, I understand it has to compromise. No everyone would enjoy having these musicians' real hot opinions around. I enjoy the comic either way. Lots of cool stuff about he 2000s Japanese music scene. Every band in the Japan BTL contest represented a popular genre of the time (Hip Hop, Alt Metal, Ska Fusion, Rock & Roll, Hardcore)

i could be wrong but im fairly certain that time signatures are written down the same way in japan as they are in western countries, i highly doubt it has to do with the translation
