Even though this manga is awesome, I have to say, as a dude that tends to go "indie" "underground" or whatever-you-wanna-call-it venues, the idea that because the public doesn't like a song means that the song is bad, is so fucking idiotic.
I mean, the guys here were doing a cover of The Monkees, and they liked it, you can kinda guess what kind of stuff was the new song they were doing, and they were playing it before a Nirvana tribute band so you know people would not like it. I've seen similar stuff like that happen before, like a shoegazy band playing before the main band which was math rock. That's just bad planning and a wrong public. Pretty sure Jimmy would know about it but I do understand that the point of the whole thing is to "Become a legend" because Shiori will die if she doesnt so they have to get a public and stuff like that. But wth is that subjective "legend" shit? Sure, The Beatles are "legends" but not in my eyes, (or ears, i guess) but that's just because I don't like them. I think this whole subjective legend thing might be a good thing for the ending or final arc or whatever. I mean, for all we know, Shiori is a legend in Izumu's (that's the sax player name, right?) eyes so she will not die by those standards.
Maybe I'm just overanalyzing a manga, but I find that this popularity = good shit kinda toxic, specially when the manga preaches you being yourself and your own freedom. Idk, maybe it's just the conflict of the chapter or arc and not the point they were trying to make, who knows. I mean, I think the whole thing about this arc is them getting emotional over this shit and using those emotions to make a good song, I can see it coming but, man, that's predictable af.
