Maybe it's different in different countries, but where I'm from, "yuppie" isn't something you would say to a person's face. While some people might admit to themselves that they are yuppies and even be proud of it (after all, it mainly assumes the person is already making a lot of money when young), it's still used as a derogatory term. Perhaps in Japan it's the opposite and only positive.

damn two years ago lol. Having gained plenty of experience in translation over the years, I agree with you. It I were translating it today, I'd have gone with something that makes sense in English.
