okay so like. i wanna mention something about chapter 30. the genderbend chapter.
the people who follow me on both reddit (r/manga) and mangadex may remember me saying the following in chapter 30's comments:
this is one of my quality checkers.
i've been seeing the writing on the wall of him going trans for fucking years now, and i thought it was a miracle that he STILL hadn't done it
i asked him to quality check chapters of this manga, since i didn't have a QC at the time and was concerned about quality. the thing is, he's really not into manga. like, at all. he only really did this because i asked nicely, as a favor to a friend. on any other day of the year he really wouldn't touch manga with a 10 meter pole. (he's been QCing since around chapter 14, i think?)
as mentioned above, i knew he was gonna go trans at some point, i just didn't know when or how. so imagine my sheer fucking astonishment, the sheer psychological whiplash, when FEMININE HIKARU is what broke the egg
(note that, as pride month has started by the time i took these screenshots, she put a trans flag on her pfp. ain't that nice?)
i've been considering writing a fan letter to the mangaka(s) of shiretto to express my thanks for making such a great series. and i'm still wavering on whether or not i do go through and actually send said fan letter (on tonarinoyj.jp itself, for the record. there's a link to a google doc to send fan letters on the title page of shiretto), but if i do end up sending the letter, i will 100% mention how their feminine hikaru design managed to feminize this western man
