Anyway, we all pretty much knew that none of these scumbag fake Heroes were going to be killed. It's a shame that it's become so predictable.

The assasin just said that there were items that can reveal "truth" like aligment and tittle. The hero lost his tittle so the specs revealed them

Eh, I'm with the "let the (ex-)hero live"... not so sure on the battle-master and paladin, but they were ineffectual enough I guess. Reason is as a few others have stated. Him dying just kills/martyrs humanity's hero (as far as they would know). Having him return as a failed hero who became [evil] and lost his god given grace is far more impactful and demoralizing. Leads to new [hero]s having people not fully trust them... though I suppose that actually is more likely to make better quality [hero]s honestly.

That said, wouldn't have been terrible to kill him either. But it is harder to kill a surrendered enemy / in cold blood (after the ex-hero lost all equipment). Either way, it seemed fairly obvious it wasn't that type of manga.
