Wow what a messed up logic that she has right there...not that it's bad entirely...perhaps?

IIRC, it's not fully established what mechanism of her revival is, but it's suspected to be time reversal or something like that. I might be way off, it's been a while since I've read this, so... just keep that presumption in mind when reading my theorizing:

I feel like that killing platform either won't work on her (it'll kill her and she'll come back) or we'll find out that the way it works is by extracting those powers from people, killing them in the process, stores that power in some form, and once it stores enough, it'll awaken as some kind of doomsday device. If the latter is the case, I think one of three scenarios will happen:

1) we find out about it (at least part of that, the extract and storage portion) beforehand, and so she decides not to go through with it, but someone else uses it and it wakes up (or the main plot of the next arc is basically "how do we destroy this thing before it wakes up").

2) we don't find out about it until she's in there, but it doesn't fully work because, by the time it's extracted her power from her, she's died, her power activates, and she comes back to life via turning back her own time to before her power is extracted, rinse and repeat until it wakes up from being infinitely filled.

3) we don't find out about it until she's in there, but it doesn't fully work because it extracts part of her power, the rest activates, and the part that was extracted was basically a limiter and now she's even more OP because she gains the ability to do some or all of the following: control it at will while retaining memories, turn back time for not just herself but things around her, actually go back in time (and further than she currently turns back her own time) while retaining memories of her deaths so she can change the future, fast-forward the time of other entities, or something else I'm not sure of.

@X-117017 Nah, its super bad and way over the top extreme. What makes it interesting though is that she knows its bad yet does it anyways.

It would be pretty hilarious if Akari just dies normally in the ritual despite all the hints that have been dropped, that would be real 5D chess on the authors part

Nah, when you're dealing with actual literal for real end-of-the-entire-world scenarios, what's justified and "extreme" kind of shifts a bit. For a society like that it doesn't get more extreme than turning all the land of the planet to salt so everything dies. That kind of risk to an entire biosphere and however many hundreds of millions of people makes killing the threat reasonable when there aren't any other options, and at least from their perspective there are not. Even their super advanced predecessors couldn't simply return them. And if anything it's really admirable they simply face that head on with brutal honesty, and don't try to pretend that the other worlders are somehow bad people or in any way at fault or whatever. They're victims too, but they're also "natural disasters" at the same time.

Good we get a backstory with new characters right before we meet those characters.

If she has time reversal I bet she reverses the time on the salt city and saves it and thus can't be killed because she can undo the mistakes of the past otherworlders

This so many times over.
If you are faced with what you know will become a walking natural disaster whether they want to or not, it's easier for everyone to deal with it early before they come into their power.
The girl at the start of this chapter didn't want to do whatever she did.
The boy back in the beginning got power-hungry real quick when he discovered his ability.
Both a danger to those around them.
The Priestesses being honest about the whole thing is refreshing.

@Alsimec
I'd love a story like that.
Say building up hype for the big space battle to come. On the last leg of the journey, the navigation malfunctions sending them careening into a star.
