Dude, I waited like 7 months for a payoff to why the eagle attacked the fairy in chapter 18.
This entire time I thought it was because the fairy was suspicious, but now it seems the eagle is the bad one. Good twist.

The way the name's set up it's actually archaïc low German. The root survives in dutch as "begeren": "to want", with a strong "greed" association in its use.
So the closest/"most accurate" english translation would be Greedy Eagle, or Eagle of Greed in its Chuuni form.

Another association of begeren ( which is the current use in dutch) would be "to lust for/after". Which would make the name basically Horny Eagle.. Make of that what you will..... 😁😇

Quite a lot of the "german" names and concepts in japanese writtings and derived manganime are actually Dietsch ( middle dutch) with a modern german spelling. Makes sense if you realise the dutch had the trade monopoly with Japan during most of the Shogunate...
So to germans it's often gibberish, while to dutch like me it's ... a really archaïc/weird way to name something.
Doubly so because over a couple of centuries the actual meaning/association has often shifted, sometimes quite significantly so.

As a native English speak who reads King Jame's English regularly, i get it.

Older meanings for words that have survived. Like "jealous" meaning protective, or "despise" meaning "consider less important".

„Adler der Begierde“ does sound pretty epic. But I wouldn’t say „Begierde“ is archaic as such, even though I suppose it’s not used in regular conversation much by most (?) people. Can imagine it being used in newspapers and such („etwas weckt Begierde“), though, so maybe one could classify it as being „bildungssprachlich“ aka scholarly.

I'm pretty happy that's it's actually a proper German noun that, as you said, actually makes sense (while maybe sounding a bit whimsical) and not some weird abomination of German-like words that make me cringe. For instance, a friend of mine just found a character with the "cool" name "Weiss Schwarzfalke".

"Weiss" and "Schwarzfalke" are both proper German words, although you'd usually write the former as "Weiß" (except in Switzerland). "Weiss" means "white", and "Schwarzfalke" is a compound of "schwarz" (black) and "Falke" (falcon), which it turns out is not actually a kind of falcon that I could find with 3 seconds of "research".

Anyway, "Schwarzfalke" could be a family name, I suppose. But "Weiss" is not a given name. So this just sounds cringy: It sounds like someone tried to say "weißer Schwarzfalke" ("white black-falcon") but didn't know how to decline the adjective "weiß".

Unfortunately, due to their diligence in taking down chapters as new ones are released whether they’re published in volumes or not, they only have chapters 1-4 and 27-28 up and, since volume 5 ends at ch 25 that makes chapter 26 effectively lost media until and if the series ever resumes.

Isn't that the common practice these days? Usually if you wanna read the whole thing, you need to have the app and become a member, but usually it just one time only read. I understand that they need to make money with their properties, but this is just sad.

Publishers other than Kadokawa will leave chapters up until they’re actually printed in volumes, or at least let you pay to read them. With web-only manga that are cancelled before a full volume comes out the final chapters can be lost forever that way, at least legally. Isekai Teni, Jirai Tsuki. is another example of this, with chapters 1-14 being available in the two published volumes but only chapters 1, 2, and 17 still being up online. The other annoying aspect of religiously removing chapters on a rolling basis rather than as the volumes come out is that there’s nearly always a gap between the volume and the lastest available web chapters, so if you only discover a title through the volumes you can’t then catch up the latest web chapters without skipping some (or tracking down rips of the missing ones).
