This is a proper mindfuck. It's so evident and ingrained that humanity completely shaped the Earth to its whims to see it here brought down to the status of endangered species in a messed up reserve.

Nevertheless, it doesn't change anything that their fake society is still unacceptable. Does humanity really need to be brainwashed into following a violent and dehumanizing cult just to survive? I think there could be a middle ground.

This is complete and utter nonsense. The original premise of the story is that these aliens infiltrated the culture of the human race to make them easy prEy. And so far we've learned that was incredibly effective. WHY wouldn't you cut out the middle man and subjugate the remaining human population under the exact same premise with THE TRUTH if the only concern was rebellion? Or even population control? This isn't so much as a twist as it is trying to say something shocking towards the end of the story with what came before it.
