Maybe I'm just jaded, but not a single one of these has even been a single bit scary. I've seen scarier stuff in the original Ge Ge Ge no Kitaro.
This is not a dig on the translators, I just think Nabatani can draw but desperately needs a real writer.

Yeah, none of them have been. It's felt more like seeing something interesting and going "huh"; a glance at a different cultural interpretation of horror.
The most emotional one has been the murdered friend one, simply because she too become a monster, and that wasn't scary but closer to kinda sad.
Still enjoying these as quick reads though.
