Should "Transgender" tag be implemented? :rejected:

There have been arguments recently, to sum things up short, wether the existence of this tag should be or not. Hopefully this poll will decide things over a "majority rules" system.

Pro-tag:​

-Transgender elements are not represented
-Current "Crossdressing" and "Genderswap" tags do not cover transgender topic
-More tags would benefit the website.

-Too little transgender mangas to the point that adding an exclusive tag for it is unnecessary

I voted no, but I do kinda want a transgender tag, but I'm afraid it would be misused, so in the best interest of this site I think it'd be better to not have it.

Counterpoint to the 'other minor tags' argument: the reason for a need for a transgender tag is because now the genre Gender Bender doesn't exist, and has been split into two tags of which neither is as inclusive to trans content as GB was. This isn't including the tag just to include a minor subset but to cover something that used to previously be covered that now isn't because the correct tag doesn't exist anymore.

This is different from also having to include other minor things like bodybuilding etc because this actually used to be covered and now isn't. Plus, Gyaru is a tag now and I'd say that's about as minor.

@gothicshark MangaDex works a little differently. Yeah, nonhuman algorithms benefits from more inputs but humans find that very confusing and this confusion escalates exponentially with more of said input. MangaDex's limited tags serve for the readers to not scroll down for ten miles, picking the wanted tags out of the sea of words, only to get a search result of three.

I voted for yes and I'm playing devil's advocate.

The check box to scrolling change was also a bad choice. But the removal of Gender Bender and the flippant attitude about it is the issue.

Also knowing how extremely anti - lgbt (esp anti-trans) anime and manga websites tend to lean, I don't expect this poll to succeed in favour of yes. Knowing that, I think it should be included as a tag anyway regardless of how this poll turns out just because it's well known sites like these tend to lean conservative / reactionary and this likely won't get anywhere. It's just a simple tag, after all, meant to cover something no longer covered by an existing tag. GB might not be perfect but at least it didn't imply certain women were just men in dresses just by being attached.

I have read it all and tbh I wouldn't care that much if it wasn't for the lack of any real solution to something that wasn't an issue until now. I wouldn't go as far as attacking people over this especially. I just think there should be something.

It's like removing the horror tag and replacing it with only Ghost and Gore; where would all the other horror stuff go? Sure, maybe the other content might not be as frequent but at least it wouldn't be misrepresented. I'm personally in favour of either Gender Bender being brought back (doesn't necessarily have to mean getting rid of genderswap or cross-dressing) or a Transgender tag existing to fill the gap.

I enjoy transgender-themed manga, but I'm not sure if a tag for it would be a good choice for this site. I'd rather nest it underneath a more wide-reaching Gender Bender tag, because that's less ambiguous and subject to debate.

Over on DR, there was this massive controversy over whether this one doujinshi should be tagged as futanari, transgender, or yuri. Tempers flared, terminology was endlessly discussed, and someone actually tried to reach out to the original artist to clarify what their intent was, but that didn't really help much either :/

How can Transgender not just be under Genderswap. The gender has been swapped from the original. Not in any magical or mystical way, but it's still a gender swap in the most literal sense of the term. There is no need for a tag when you can just throw it under Genderswap and call it good. If it was fine under Gender Bender which had a whole bunch of stuff in it, it can do fine under Genderswap.
