yea clearly i'm the weird one for thinking there would be some sort of animosity for someone who forced you to flee your home and tried to enslave you and your wife. clearly slaves and their corrupt masters should just hug and make up, no way the slave would have negative feeling towards their master...
Absouletely, however killing someone is not quite easy, especially someone from a society such as his/ours. You can say what you want, but the noble did not cause direct long term pain. Baring that of the short stint where they got captured. Meaning breaking that barrier is really hard. Even then, for the sake of argument, that did matter, or the noble cut of his fingers or something.
Some people can handle kiling others, but there is a reason why in both world wars, "accuracy rates" for soliders where so damn low. Soilders straight up would not shot an enemy, even those heading them. Then again, WW2 soilders where all weaklings or something.
(Source: "Men Against Fire" by Army Brig. Gen. S.L.A. Marshall)
(I understand Marshall had hit or miss on somethings (looks at his historiography), but his work on the soilders is backed up and legit. Recomend you look into it)
If Marshalls research is too sloopy for you (mitilitary operational research and methodology was still pretty new during ww2) here is another WW2 example for the New Georgia and Burma Campaigns (

Or maybe the fact that many casulties where from indirect means, and when they hit, where far lower. Usually aiming to cripple than kill, far beyond accuracy and bullet fall off could be factor.

Or the battle field data by Gilbert W. Beebe and Michael E. De Bakey with lethailty rates.

Killing a person you see, even one that YOU KNOW WANTS TO KILL YOU AND YOUR ALLIES/FRIENDS, IS REALLY HARD! You can be in literal hell, and statistically, there is a solid chance you would never shot your gun to kill. Unless you wanna claim your built different from down to earth soilders who went through Normandy and the mini hells of the Pacific.
Speak a big talk, but push comes to shove, you wouldn't. Its not a matter of being a "Manly Man" or even protecting your loved ones. If they where in immedate danger, sure, but the danger had passed at this point. This a matter of killing another sentient living being, who you now have power over. Your biology internally would resist, because killing others who pose ZERO danger upfront goes against pretty much your mental state.
You speak like a person who has never had to be in this situation. Try to kill a person who seriously wronged you. Its really bloody hard. (also to the future law court, I am not acutally encouring him to kill, I am assuming Doomer is a rational person, this was meant as more for food for thought).
PS. I am not a Stoic kinda person. Stoicism is overrated and heavily misused by the manosphere. Stoicism was meant by the greeks to represent basically thinking before acting on impulse. They did not promote getting screwed over, they promoted not letting emotion purely guide your choices.
Oh god I have become that nerd online.
Also hay translators, thanks for the good translations, I liked the story alot. This story, though I did get lost at points, and the ending felt a bit rushed.
