Yeah, you might know already but if the backgrounds shift in color (anything but white) that implies a shift in the normal setting. Normally that shift will be time. So backgrounds at the end of last chapter shifted to brown for the flashback and this whole new chapter was all brown again.

Yup, I also was confused big time until someone pointed this out. Once known it makes things straightforward.
