I wonder how far back this survey data goes cause even for how horrific the event was there has been some pretty big disasters in relatively recent japanese history.
You know, I was kind of expecting a more violent form of PTSD out of the patient. In the beginning, it felt more like survivor's guilt, and it seemed so trivial on the surface.
Simply just rough to have dissociative symptoms on top of PTSD. It does explain why he's having a hard time with EMDR from the previous chapter as he is having a hard time associating those events as his own memories and experiences.

I understand disassociating to cope but other than needing to be 'present' during times like driving hopefully he can get through with it even if he needs medication, tho idk if there are prescriptions/pills for disassociating specifically versus something like anti anxiety pills to relax /prevent panic attacks
Tho i'm half expecting his 'cheerful' friend to be faking it/exaggerating his personality a bit as his own way to cope or so
Thank you for the chapter! I deal with dissociation myself, and one of my partners is a Dissociative Identity Disorder system. DID usually only occurs from repeated trauma in childhood, but it does occasionally happen later in life as well. Think of it as "since I'm too weak/not ready/otherwise unable to deal with this, I'll make a new me who can face it instead".
My favourite part is when docror says Fuyumuro is doing great. Really captures this honest, but convincing statement that the patient really needs to hear and believe
