while i get what Cesca was saying to him it basically meant that this whole thing is gonna get much worse in the long run like she saved his clan but in return she made him realize what is going on and how badly it will end for them once he ends this
also girl i know you dont want his love but the way you denied him while kind was also like "yah your feelings are just fake" could've gone about it better

So i understand shifting your desires into a more academic path instead of a more politically active one, cowardice id argue. But right now cesca has the power to protest, and given that she saw exactly everything that led up to this, wouldnt she clue in on her being the object of interest of the source of all this gives her that power to protest right that instant? There's changing your goals and there's forgetting your dreams, i dont get why the author would even put that point there but have her completely reject her new found tentative status to fulfill her goals, it makes her seem stupid when she's been the only one reasonable thus far.

I think Shiki was well aware how badly things could end for the Yaguu (he says as much in chapter 2). I think Cesca is manipulating him into making an effort to change things rather than simply "accept their lot in life" - or even be complacent about his own. She's basically telling him "if you want something, make it happen yourself".

As for the marriage stuff, to be honest it's the least sophisticated part of the series for me - it feels like the most "shoe-horned in because this is a josei manga" part of the series, even though I think any eventual actual romance between Cesca and Shiki will probably be a lot more convincing later on.

My take is that Cesca hasn't actually abandoned her ambitions at all. Everything she says here is calculated to manipulate Shiki into doing what she wants while appearing to "not be a threat" (saying that she's abandoned pursuit of political power in Nankan places her "apart" from the rest of the Council), and she is consistently portrayed as being the most intelligent person in the room. If she can control the Council of Royals as acting chair, however subtly, then she gets what she wants while still being free to investigate the archaeological/anthropological mysteries she's so fascinated by.

the narrative hasnt made her out to be so egoistic with her desire, but i can see that. Especially if her priorities have anthropological archeology as above right to protest, i hope the author gives her a bit more visible ambition, then again her design to be harmless can also be her written as her tactic for diplomacy, i truly hope they make her out to be more ambitious/cunning instead of stumbling into the solutions for these problems.
