I'm holding my judgement for a couple more chapters. I don't really think a truly faithful adaptation of the LN would make a very good manga so it really depends on what these changes are in service of.

Either way, I thought the earlier chapters were pretty damn good actually! It’ll probably take a few more chapters for them to nail down what should be included or excluded from the source material. After all, not everything can be adapted fully, or each chapter‘ll be 50 pages long lul

my biggest issue isn't quite that it removes specific beats or even that the internal monologue is gone. the thing that drives shuukura is largely a certain affect, a holding of breath as intimacy is heightened and an exhale as things either progress or recede.

this is predominantly done through eroticism (the plot beats) or melodrama (the monologues), but could be done in a different ways. examples include interesting artstyle shifts, condensing novel moments into one "day" to make a more condensed but claustrophobic tone, or hyper-focus on gesture (ideally through increased eroticism- i have an agenda even if it is specifically not needed to produce the same affect lol).

at the moment, that tone is not quite coming through nearly as loud as the novel. even if it doesnt reach those same heights ill still be here for funny panels and maika fangirling, but well im nothing if not a critic. fingers crossed that some cool art maneuvering happens tho

she needs a friendly person who would stay beside some like her character and it's hard to come by.
